Also, I'm not getting into the new TIg early as I am not getting caught (again) in the price gouging that the manufacturers get into early in a new models life. Corporate pricing unlikely to be fully available for at least 6months ....

I'll wait a while and see what happens ... Wife is really keen on the rumoured 7 seat Tig, might get her a new Polo GTI to drive for a year or 2 while we wait ��

Will be interesting to see the story with corporate pricing (only retail , agree its a new model but not a special edition (which they def don't apply corporate pricing to) so they'll be doing themselves out of a sale if they delay dealer access to it ( unless my dealer can otherwise sharpen their pencil and come up with a good price). Agree it is always a risk with gouging with buying a new "you beaut" model.

I know APR Oz when they were running locally used to use a hub dyno and quoted hub figures and not flywheel numbers.

I'm guessing the APR US and Revo numbers are quoting flywheel numbers. I'm not sure how they're doing that if the engine is still in the car - other than using some calculation for drive-line losses.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter as long as you're comparing stock to tuned values using the same measurement method. Unfortunately not everyone posts up their test methods and any calculations/assumptions that they have made to generate the figure they have come up with.

One thing is for certain is there are some very decent gains to be had from a stage 1 or 2 tune. The other thing for certain is that whenever people start quoting power figures there's always going to be people that question it

Yes, it's absolutely in the way the dyno figures are converted to flywheel figures. Hub dynos the most accurate but in all cases converting that is reliant on estimated drivetrain losses.

The improvement from stock to tuned (and where in the rev range) is really what you are looking for and not the ultimate final claimed figure.

Either way a 60kw/150nm increase is massive and very noticeable.

Stay clear of piggybacks as they are not in the same league performance wise or even engine safety wise .....

What's Guy's website? Who are some of the other tuners?

Nobody has a tune for the new Tiguan yet that I'm aware of. It will be similar to the Mk7 GTI but most tuners will develop something specific.

I imagine the usual suspect will be: APR, Revo, DNA, Spectune, RDtecknik amongst others.

Piggybacks are an option, however they're really a bit of a compromise as they can't access all the maps that a true ECU tune will.

We'll just have to wait until the cars come out and tuners do their work.

I won't be getting one of the first Tigs for a few reasons - one of these is that there will be very limited hardware/software available for the first year or 2.

Hi All, eagerly reading this thread with all the information on the new Tiguan. Obviously lots of knowledge here on whats happening so I'm hoping someone may be able to sort out the truth from just the stories. Keenly awaiting the arrival of the new Tiguan. Been following its progress since its announcement. I for one, will be lining up to make an order and take delivery. Originally we were waiting for the current TDI to be re-released and purchase at a good price, however the closer we get to the release of the new one, and no sign yet of whats happening with the old, we have made a decision to go with the new. Ultimately a better vehicle for what we want. We will be looking at the Comfortline 110TDI with DAP. Would have liked the extra grunt of the 140TDI , but just cant justify the extra dollars for the extra power. The only additions I really want out of the Highline is the LED Lights, Pro Sat Nav and the extra power. Everything else I can take or leave. I have to say, its a BIG disappointment with VAG to not include LED Headlights as either a standard feature, give all the other excellent safety features as standard or at least as an option. Having had BiXenon lights of both my GTI and Yeti , reluctant to go back to normal Halogen headlights. Bit late for VAG to reconsider I guess.

Can someone give me a heads up with expected deliveries ? I have read articles that say , all models will be available at launch, this thread indicates otherwise. I don't mind having to place an order and wait, I waited 6 months for my GTI and 4 months for my Yeti , but if delivery is into new year . . . that's too long. I'm without a decent car at present so would like one ASAP, but prepared to wait to get what I want. Within reason of course. Also, accessories , I read the flyer posted here in the thread which mentions accessories, I'm hoping/assuming items like a Towbar will be available for the outset ? As a novated lease, I need to make sure everything I want is included up front.

Hi Flappa,

The 140TDI and 162TSI Highline will definitely be delayed. There's no approvals for these models yet either. Approvals for the 110TDI came through the other day.

As far as I understand all Trendline and Comfortline models should be available at launch, however whether they have the colour/options that you're wanting is something else.

I'd suggest that you get onto your local dealer and put in an order / get their stock controller to source you the colour/options that you're after. Otherwise you'll be playing the waiting game...

Unlikely they will have mine . . . I want an Orange one. I have been speaking with my dealer who has been pretty helpful, but he is still a car dealer who needs to make money. Nice to get a separate view of things. While of course I want a good deal on the car, the fact is I need a car and this appears to be it. Having a car in this case may outweigh and cost savings.

Any thought on the availability of accessories, more specially, a towbar. Wasn't sold on the vertical towbar on my Yeti, would prefer a Haymen Reese, but guessing that may be a little way off them developing one. May have to go with a VW item. Just need to make sure I cant get something.

Anyone got any thoughts on the expected longevity of the Tiguan ? I know, how long is a piece of string, but again, loads of knowledge here and from my understanding the major components in the new tiguan are lifted from other vehicles so there must be some history on how they last. Reasoning is simple, this purchase will be a long term purchase, 7 to 10 years and I do heaps of kilometres per year. Just wondering if I'm too ambitious with the new Tig.

No idea on the accessories - tow bars etc. It depends on how well organised the accessory guys are and how long they have had a vehicle for to make all the necessary arrangements.

As far as long term there hasn't been too many early failures (apart for a couple of turbos on the R) that I'm aware of for the MQB platform. All is quiet on the diesel front now that they've gone down the adblue path also.

If there was any DSG gearbox that I would recommend to keep long term it would be the 7 speed wet clutch DQ500 that they fit to the Tiguan higher power/torque models. The head mechanic at our local VW independent reckons these things are bullet-proof. Coming from a mechanic who sees all the issues that is certainly reassuring.

Obviously if you're keeping it longer term then you'll be taking care of it in terms of servicing etc so you'll know the full service history. If the first generation Tigs are anything to go by the they have been mechanically very good. I don't see any reason why the second gen won't be much the same.

Do you think they will do half a million K's ?

I came out of a MkVI GTI with DSG with 270,000 on it, with absolutely no issues and my DSG Yeti with 47,000 in 9 months. I have no great concerns with either the DSG or the diesel, just thought I would see if there was something obvious I was missing from people in the now.

Have a check of the first gen Tiguan section as there's a few reviews of high mileage Tiggy's and how they have been relatively trouble-free.
