The difference is that with corporate pricing VWA is offering the discount and the dealers make an agreed (lower) margin.

Sometimes VW advertises drive away specials and these are a similar sort of deal where the dealer and VW make a smaller/agreed discount and aim to make up for it by increased number of sales.

If you're just trying to negotiate a deal on a standard car that has no discount from VWA then the dealer only has their margin to play with. If you go at the end of the month and the dealer needs to sell a car to make their numbers then you may be able to negotiate a better price and sometimes a dealer may technically lose money on the sale but make it back through volume bonuses if they're a bigger dealer.

At the end of the day it all depends on how much the dealer wants to sell you a car. Price is one thing. After sales service is another

Man that's kinda expensive and that without Sunroof...too.

I'll be getting corporate discount though so would be probably around $55-57k still

I dont care about a sunroof and I don't have access to corporate pricing. He gave me about $800 discount on both options but I guess you can't really expect much at this stage since the pricing just came out and cars arent even in the dealerships yet. Expensive compared to a corporate discount sure.

Re petrol v diesel choose the 162tsi petrol (which is a lovely motor btw) if you will be driving more in the city and/or with less annual Km's. I'm in the country with more highway k's and moderate km's (probs 20k p.a) so fuel economy is important (and less time spent at the bowser), but I also love the promise of the torquey/grunty diesel for overtaking etc so a win/win

Haven't spoken to my dealer re pricing yet. I'll have corporate pricing but also expect a bit extra on top so we'll see where we end up!

Thanks for the input Andrew. I think you're right on the money. I will probably get it tuned as well so it's more like a GTI/R. Do Diesel's still have the issue with the filter when doing short trips? I remember when I had the GT Sport you needed to take it on the highway to clear it.

If the stats I've seen quoted elsewhere are true, then the 162TSI 0-100 sprint time of 6.7s (or was it 6.5s?) isn't far off the standard GTI as it is (My GTI-P is quoted at 6.3s). What the Tig gains in weight it makes up in traction (FWD v AWD). A tune will make the 162TSI a bloody quick family wagon. Kind of why I want one, however in an effort to save a few bucks I'm looking at the 132TSI. Same motor, same potential - just a bit of a handicap to get started with but life would be boring if everything was easy

It'll be interesting to see what lease pricing yields. I got a quote on a CX-5 Akera today (all the bells and whistles) which came in at $44.5k FBT Base value. If I can get an R-Line 162TSI for within one or two thousand of that I may play ball. I'd prefer to stay with a VAG vehicle though, so if a loaded 132TSI comes in cheaper then it'll be a winner as well. Of course the Akera and 132TSI will be available long before the 162TSI.

Was the quote for the petrol or diesel CX-5? Coz the petrol's a 2.5L NA slug and I would avoid if you like a sporty drive. The diesel on the other hand is a cracker though a fair bit more expesnive!

Yep, always thought I'd go diesel with an SUV but that GTI engine is a sweet thing and with a few mods it will be quite the sleeper. What sort of yields can you expect form the 132 TSI?

Are you actually comparing the engine of the CX-5 to a Tiguan? Mazda has no turbo on the petrol and the diesel is overpriced.

Sorry, I was a bit misleading although not on purpose.

The quote was for the NA petrol, but I'm actually in the market for potentially 2 cars. One for the Mrs to replace her aging Lancer (she needs more space and a nicer/safer car) and possibly for me to replace the GTI (even though I got in less than 12 months ago).

I need more space (football coaching, weekend house work, just being a taller person) but still want grunt hence my interest in the Tig as it gives me a car that can be a real rocket but more space the than the GTI. The Mrs doesn't give a rats a** about power - she just wants a soccer mum car even though we don't have kids yet. If the NA petrol was that bad I'd drop down to the loaded CX-5 GT and swap to diesel. I may also just get her a 132 Tig, and replace the GTI when the 162 is available. But then I'd feel weird having two of the same car lol.

It's confusing even me...I guess I'll just wait for the Tig's to be available for a test drive, and see what happens.
