We picked up our shiny new silver Tiguan 162 TSI with DAP this morning. No Sunroof, no R-Line pack. This is the best value set up

The dealer, we bought it from is in Liverpool and we are near Chatswood. It was a 1 hour drive to get back.

I drove in a mixture of heavy and light traffic. All settings were as delivered and the gentleman handing over the car was a fill in and did not know much about the car at all. I knew more about it than he did.

On the whole I feel that VW have lifted their production game and delivered a well put together vehicle.

We went over the car and only found one small smudge which will rub off and one scratch on the (LHS) lower foot well plastic cover. He took a photo and said they will order a replacement part.

    Good points to note:

    1. The paint work is excellent.
    2. The fit in all things are very good.
    3. The top storage compartment lid (in the dashboard) fitted flat and not raised as some have been delivered.
    4. Just love the new car smell.
    5. The car has a very solid feel.
    6. Everything in the car is stiff and hard to open. (We are very gentle with it on day one.)
    7. The Adaptive Cruise Control makes driving in traffic a breeze. The ability to have the car slow down to a stop leaving the correct distance between me and the car in front is great.
    8. The digit display in front of the driver is fantastic in what information it displays.
    9. The stop/start in traffic was not noticeable if you were not in a hurry to get off the mark.
    10. The acceleration was reasonable considering the engine had covered only 20 Km and I did not want to push it although on the M2 going from 90 to 140 was quite impressive.
    11. The driver’s electric seat range of setting is very large. Both of us are short and the driver’s seat can be set so high that we have to step up to sit in it. It gives us very clear vision ahead.
    12. The reversing camera works very well showing where the car will be going especially when the front types are turned.
    13. Android Auto just works beautifully.
    14. My Samsung phone connected seamlessly and I could call and receive calls so easily.
    15. The 360 camera views are interesting and has great potential especially in my narrow solid brick garage. It looks like it’s aligned to the car but will check properly later.
    16. The LHS rear mirror automatically “dips” to show you your rear wheel when you are in reverse AND you have the “mirror” adjust dial set to the LHS mirror. (Found this out by accident. J )
    17. A quick view under the body looks like it is properly sealed. I think this helps with the low amount of external noise entering the cabin.

The possible not so good points to note:

    1. The highline should have come with electric passenger seat as well. (I would have paid the extra.)
    2. I would have paid for the adaptive suspension and progressive steering if they were separate options.
    3. A DAB+ receiver should have been standard. Currently it is just not available at all.
    4. Coming from a vintage X Trail, the boot space is significantly shorter (~200mm).
    5. With all the high-tech stuff located in the centre top of the windscreen I cannot work out where to put my front car camera recorder without obstructing either the driver or passenger view.
    6. Fitting it in my narrow garage the alarm bells go off continuously. I know I can turn them off, but I think I will need them “on the road” so I will put up with this when I park. I may change my mind after a few weeks of constant noise.
    7. The leather appears to be susceptible to marking easily. (My X Trail’s leather seats are still in excellent condition with no cracks or marks after 14+ years.) The Tiguan’s leather does not give me the impression that I will get the same life out of them. Time will tell.

I have added a few pictures of parts of the car that other posters have not provided.

    1. The TSI engine.
    2. The turbo charger which is why we have bought the 162 TSI in the first place.
    3. A view of the under body showing the insulation and sealing.
    4. The position of the reversing mirror’s dial to activate the dipping of the LHS reversing mirror.

    All the best
    David

Learnt a valuable lesson today that may save others some pain.

I spent two hours washing car thoroughly only to have my wife come back with it from the shops with bits of 'spray' all over the roof and side windows. Turns out she'd used the windscreen wiper fluid to try and get rid of a bug or something. Anyway, the wipers/spray seem to be too powerful and send the washer fluid flying onto the roof and sides of the car.

Long story short - don't use the washer/wiper function unless you really really need to.

Probably not helped if you have a highline as well, as the headlights also get "cleaned" at the same time. This is something that annoys me with my Jetta. The bonnet gets covered in spray.

An update on the 1,000km service. I spoke to the dealer I bought the car from and it's just a complementary free check-up that is done by the dealer who you bought the car from - i.e. you can't have it done for free at another dealer.

It's also not mandatory, more if you have any questions or concerns you can bring it in and they'll give it the once over. So I'm not going to bother, as the dealer is a bit of a drive away.

Nope. They said it's not an official VW service, just more a dealer courtesy.

McGrath Liverpool VW have the first complimentary check up at 5,000km.

No service as such. Just a courtesy check in to see if there is any troubles or niggles.

Can anyone that's got their 162TSI tell me if the driver seat/mirror settings are assignable to a car key? Or do you have to 'manually' choose between 1 of 3 stored settings? Thanks!

I don't have one yet, but the settings can be tied to the key. It's in the manual
