What is everyone's view on the JB4 being detected once uninstalled (for servicing)?

The internet seems split on VW being able to find traces of it being connected and VW not being able to detect it. George from BMS says it's not detectable but it's his product, so you'd expect him to say that.

I take it most would just service it elsewhere and remove it before any warranty work at a dealer?

General consensus is to only take it back to the dealer for warranty work. A good independent workshop will pick up if there’s any issues.

I also get my cars to be fully inspected prior to warrant expiration to pick up anything that may need to be addressed under warranty.

Thanks - if I choose to go ahead with it I'll be taking your advice on waiting a little longer and doing the full inspection.

You seem to be well vested in tuning options. What's your view of piggybacks or the JB4 specifically?

I think the JB4 is pretty well tried and tested. If I had a 132TSI I’d be running a JB4 as there aren’t any tunes available.

Obviously there’s limitations with it. As soon as you start adding hardware I don’t think it’s worth it as in reality are you going to uninstall hardware to take it back to the dealer for warranty? A tune at this stage is the least of your worries.

I personally think if you’re worried about warranty and/or not going to keep the car longer term a JB4 makes a decent amount of sense. Being able to remove it and sell it after is quite an attractive proposition as regular tuning is sunk cost which you don’t get back.

Hey guys, I had the old Tiguan 132 TSI Pacific and now have the 162 TSI R Line.

I had the APR Stage 1 on the old Tiguan and i remember that the car suffered rough starts in the mornings for the first start of the day until this was fixed at a later date with another APR Stage 1 update. It had something to do with a heat pump upon a cold start.

I am considering the APR Stage 1 tune for the 162 TSI Tiggy, has anyone who has it have any issues to report?

Also the old Tiguan tune had the ability the change the mapping depending on fuel type being used using the Cruise Control Stalk. One of the programs was also the stock settings/mapping.

Does the APR tune have this feature for the 162 TSI.

Also is there still a difference in performace when selecting "D" vs "S"?

APR also has a tune for the DSG yeah?

I am considering getting this done through Eurotune on the Goldy.

    Hi Lanos, welcome back.
I’ve had APR stage 1 file for the 162 TSI, it reduced the 0-100 time from 6.5s to around 5.4s with launch control. There isn’t enough memory to have multiple programs, so you will just be flashed a single program, if you need to change program you will need to visit the dealer. S mode is more aggressive, although I don’t know the particulars in terms of map parameters. APR are working on a DQ500 MQB tune, it hasn’t been released yet. I went with TVS engineering, however there are a number of custom tuners like Etuners, Etuners Motorsport and Underground Performance that can do the TCU tune.
VW Tiguan 162 TSI Highline w/ R-Line & DAP. Mods: OEM IS38 turbo, APR IS38 98 RON ECU tune, TVS Stage 2 + with custom TCU tune, APR Downpipe and resonator delete, APR turbo inlet, VWR turbo muffler delete, APR pendulum mount, APR dog bone insert, APR Open Pod Filter (MQB), RAMAIR intake tube, APR Red Ignition Coils, NGK R7437-9 Spark Plugs, DBA T3 slotted rotors front and T2 slotted rotors rear, ATE ceramic pads front and rear Vbox: 0-100 4.1s

Thanks! And you've found no issues after the tune such as running rough or issues with cold starts?

Ah so despite the tune there still is a difference between the cars throttle responsiveness between D & S. I find S mode unpleasant in start stop traffic.

I swear when I last spoke with Eurotune last year they said there was a DSG tune available or perhaps they meant one would be available.

Hey Lanos you should try the bluefin tune. It's money back guarantee for a few weeks and do it in your driveway. I would be hard pressed to believe the Apr tune gets much more of any. The bluefin for the Tiguan is actually pretty aggressive. Off the mark is incredible.

Woe so many tunes to pick from now! Gotta do some research then. APR is the easiest to access for me since i live rurally in Northern NSW.

As REXman mentioned, with the Bluefin/Superchips tune you can do it yourself. They post you a tool, you connect it to your OBD port, it reads your ECU then you connect it to your PC and they download your current stock ECU data and provide a tune. Download it to your tool, plug it into your car and away you go. Can flash back and forth whenever you need to. Good for rural locations (permitting you have internet) and on paper the tune actually looks quite good.
