Just bought a wolfsburg but haven't collected yet. Considering options for a tune but have never done this on a new car still under warranty (previous car was a 2009 wrx that I was happy to mod and have a custom flash tune because it was well out of warranty). Are you guys that have done it just accepting that you won't be covered on engine and drivetrain faults?

Also wondering if you could get around this by purchasing a second ECU and doing the tune on that while keeping the original stock?

Pretty much if you're going to tune it you have to look to the tuning company to warrant any engine damage that may be attributted to the tune. So first thing I'd say is go with someone that 1) has insurance 2) backs up the product and doesn't hang customers out to dry.

Sorry to say that it's not quite as easy as changing over the ECU as the immobiliser in the cluster is coded to only operate with the ECU. It used to be with older cars you could swap the ECU but on newer cars it's no longer possible.

If you use someone like APR who do a flash tune it only takes around 30 minutes to put the OEM tune back. I’ve done this recently (car was due for a service) took the car back to the APR dealer and they re-installed the OEM tune. Got the service done and took the car back to the APR dealership and they put their stage 1 tune back in, all free of charge.

The only downside was driving the car with the stock tune back in for a few days, car felt like it was full of lead lol.

I have no affiliation with APR, I’m just a customer, and a very happy one at that. The stage 1 tune absolutely transforms the Tig into a seriously fun car with loads more torque and acceleration. Cheapest performance upgrade I have ever done, will definitely go to stage 2 in the near future. 👍

If anyone wants to sell me their stock DP/cat I am willing to buy it
Want a stocker one so I can try something, if it works will be happy to share my findings to the wider audience.

Also got in touch with an Unitronic dealer (won't say who) - they weren't interested in anything I had to say.

Wanted to do back to back comparison on a dyno I am able to hire with the car stock, then with their tune, then have the stage 1 tune modfied to raise the O2 sensor voltage stop a DTC being flagged with a modified downpipe/cat installed.

Literally got a pathetic rude reply and also questions unanswered.

    Oh wells, the search continues.

If anyone knows of a tuning suite where I can do my own tuning on the VAG platform - please advise, happy to buy it.

Dont bother going to VW for service, some 16 year old will be doing the oil and filter change, any certified workshop can do. I got my 15k service done at Peerless, does not void the warranty.

Yep agree mate. It was its first service and APR recommended me to get that free service done in case they have any factory upgrades. The car will now be serviced at the APR dealership ever 7500klms. $150 cheaper than VW as well.

Yes bud I agree. APR suggested I get the first service at the dealership in case any factory upgrades were done. APR will be servicing my car from now on every 7500klms, they are also $150 cheaper than VW and you won’t get apprentices doing the work.
