Anyone gotten a deal on an APR tune, or they’re all around the $1300 mark just for the ecu flash?

I drove the 162TSI R-line at the VW drive days and although it has reasonable performance for a family SUV it never felt really urgent.

I suggest talking to your insurance company before you modify your car about what they will/won't insure. Some companies (e.g. Allianz) won't allow any modifications, whereas an insurer like Shannons will allow you to pretty much do anything to your car that you like. Main thing is that you disclose your modifications to your insurer as you don't want to get into a sticky situation where you make a claim and it gets denied due to not disclosing modifications. Insurer will claim that it increases their risk/exposure.

There's many insurance companies that will accept a software tune but not all so make sure you check and get it listed as a modification on your policy.

I wrote a whole new thread about the APR tune that I can’t be bothered to type out again.

But can say bang for buck it’s very impressive and it feels like it should have done from the factory! The torque increase is amazing, pulls really hard and now feels & drives like it looks with the Rline pack!

In normal mode - it now has the torque to avoid the DSG kicking down and pulls well.. a bit more torque to make normal driving easier

In sports mode - massive difference. From 2k rpm pulls and then 3k really kicks in 🙂 it now feels sporty and when accelerating can now feel it making use of the 4motion.

The car now feels like it should.. very happy wirh the improvement.

Should add it feels like a very turbo boost pressure tune.. but that’s not a bad thing.. if the turbo messes up it’s probably the cheapest part to replace. Plus having different driving modes helps when you want to run around on something less aggressive.

I always wonder how an insurance company would know how a tune had been done if there was no physical modification done to the vehicle.

It was never designed to be a sports car was it. I suspect the only reason Oz got the 162 was to replace the bi turbo diesel which I would have bought in preference if they had supplied it here though NZ got both so maybe not.

No it's a sporty car not a sports car. And not even really a performance SUV. You need to be running in the mid-5 seconds 0-100 to be a considered a performance SUV these days. Audi RSQ3 and Porsche Macan Turbo are both 4.4sec so the 162 Tig is pedestrian in comparison.

It's not even a sporty car as it handles like a boat around corners.

I mean a sporty SUV. It doesn’t handle too badly to be honest but could do with a bit less body roll.
