Mk2 Tiguan Tuning

Picked up my 162tsi with all options in white Friday.

Going to get Peerless Automotive to do the APR tune after around 5,000km.

Given the APR claims of around 230kw @engine for stage 1 vs 250kw @engine for stage 2 which needs AWD down pipe wondering if the stage 2 is actually worth it....

Hi INASNT You could go APR stage 1 first and see whether that power is enough for you. Stage 2 software is a free upgrade when you buy the APR MQB AWD downpipe, so you can build it incrementally. I will prob get the down pipe soon and will use the Dragy performance monitor to measure the 0-100 times.

Stage 2 generally is more about giving you a nice big fat torque curve. There's a bit more at the top end in terms of power but it's the mid-range torque increase you'll notice most.

Yes it is FWD. Makes for interesting driving getting all that power down through the front wheels. Is better when rolling rather than from a standing start otherwise traction control just kicks in. AWD in a Tiguan is definitely an advantage off the line and in the wet.

You'd want to do both IS38 and DP but I'd budget on ~$5k for turbo, exhaust and tune. But don't quote me on that - better to talk to your local tuner and get a price including fitting.

A CTS turbo IS38 (on sale at the moment) is just over $2000 landed, excluding any local/import taxes. Tim from Dub Addiction also sells IS38s for $2499 in Melbourne. The APR software for an IS38 can work with the OEM downpipe, however more power can be achieved with an after market down pipe. You might need to contact a dealer about the cost of the IS38 software.

On the weekend I used the performance meter to see how much boost (psi) it runs stock. According to the performance meter at full throttle it runs around 15psi. The gauge shows 30psi but the atmospheric absolute pressure is 14.69psi so need to minus this.

Interested to see how much boost stage 1 or 2 would run.

Hi Inasnt, the performance meter on the Tig will max out at 162 kw (unfortunately). In terms of stage 1 boost, I haven’t paid to much attention to this but it does starts to head towards that 30 psi mark.

I spoke to Simon at Peerless and he does sound knowledgeable and if he is close and can support you, that sounds like it ticks all the boxes. I went to Allan in VW Park for the same reasons.

I have also been speaking with Alex from underground performance and he is very knowlegable and has custom tuned a few 162 TSIs, I think stage 1 puts out 177kw at the wheels. So that is another potential option.
