It’s still 2018
Was just reading through the specs of the updated Mazda CX-5 2.5l turbo - in top-spec Akera trim (at $49k before ORC) I reckon it gives the 162TSI a run for its money.
I think VW is really going to have to lift its game for 2020, here are some things currently absent for $3-5k more money:
-Ventilated front seats
-Heated rear seats (on the 5 seater)
-Heated steering wheel
-Nappa leather
-Included sunroof
-Included premium sound system
-Included (proper) head up display
-Traffic sign recognition
-LED fog lights
-DAB radio
Quite a large list if you think about it. Time for VW to pick up their game in Australia if you ask me!

I'd expect there to be a MY19.5 update which will bring a few smaller options in as standard.
It's usual for car companies to leap frog the competition. It's a bit of a game to keep ahead of the pack until you launch a brand new model.

You can never win. There is always a new model with new "must have" features.
It's the way the world works. If they brought the new model out with every feature then they would have nothing to make a song and dance about for the next 5 years.

The CX5 is going to be a much improved package with the 2.5T - I really like the interior and exterior design too - but the same rear legroom and pathetic boot space issues will remain until they redesign it.

Again all relative to age - one reason I picked the CX5 over (Gen 1) Tiguan was for boot space. Clearly Gen 2 has jumped a size, so depends whether Mazda does likewise down the track.
