Instructions for those Apple types -

"If the map update is performed using the Apple® OS X operating system you may find that
Discover Pro does not recognise the map material or displays it incorrectly. This is due
to a lack of compatibility between the “7 zip” program and the OS-X operating system. In
addition, the OS-X operating system has a tendency to create hidden additional files on
external data media. We therefore recommend that OS X users use the “Keka” unzipping
program. We also recommend using the “CleanMyDrive” program to remove any hidden files
    ."

Yeah he should just take the zip file to work and unzip it on his work PC it wont hurt it in any way but takes about an hour and a half to do it

What a PIA the VW Tiguan update process is compared to my other SUV where updates are performed annually by the dealership free as part of the service.

    1) After unzipping, total file size was 100MB more than would fit on a 32GB USB
Contrary to dumb VW Discover Pro update documentation: "You will need an SD card with a minimum of 32 GB of storage to update your navigation data.Volkswagen recommends the use of a Class 10 SDHC card, which is readily available to buy."
    2) Copying main folder would not be recognized by VW. Had to copy the 2 sub-folders and 1 file to root for VW update to recognize
    3) Updating with the car turned off, causes the 'low battery' warning, which shut off the power mid-update
    4) Turned the engine on and the update appear to continued
VW docs: If the process is interrupted – for example, by parking the vehicle – the copying process automatically continues at the point at which it was interrupted as soon as the ignition is switched on. ...hope so !!
    5) Update took over 20 mins
    6) At the end of the update, CW update screen said update was interrupted (error) and needs to re-boot.
    7) After re-boot, Map Version appears to show the latest @ 0088 2020/2021
As the version shows the latest, don't know if the update went ok or if I have to do it again

... pull your finger out VW and make the updates free annually and include them as 'standard' as part of the service

1 the updates are free every 6 months, in June and Nov
2 I have always got it to fit on a 32gb card. Yes you copy the CONTENTS OF THE FOLDER
3 turn ign on and let it idle while you do it
4 have gone shopping and turned it off several times and it just continued
5 Update usually takes 40 min on last several Ive done
6 never had that but best to anyway
    7 correct

They dont have to they are free to do and why would they spend time for free when owners can do it themselves

When they get Discover Care going again it will download and unzip directly to an SD Card Cant be easier than that

Do you use a PC or a MAC

    7 correct

    1. I assume you mean free to download, not free to be installed at the dealership during a service ?
    ...
    4. Good to know
    5. Good to know
    ...
    7. If the update didn't perform correctly but shows the correct latest version, is an issue I should be expecting that means if I need to do the install again ?

.... on a side note I see a lot of new cars offering Apple Car Play / Android Auto as standard with no sat nav on the base / middle models (not that I like where this trend is heading)

1 yes its not part of the service in any way and other makes like Madza Kia and others do it the same way. Lucky you havent go a Landcruiser and have to PAY over $400 for them.

7 You can redownload it and try to install it again It will do it

What computer are you using as it makes a BIG difference

My 32 GB SD card has these figures

    Used space 28.7gb

30,870,208,512 bytes ( which is the maps)

    1,191,051,264 bytes free space

Easiest way to do it is Download map put SD card in computer go to map file Open it with a zip program (I use Winrar) and tell it to EXTRACT it to the SD card.

I redid it this morning and it took 97mins to d/load the map and 38mins to unzip it to the SD card

Hi, just a quick one - are there any new Personal POI's available for Discover Pro unit - in particular Melbourne, Victoria? Or is there a site to visit to get them?
