Hi IsDon
Now the dream becomes a reality. Now the internet and the maritime ship tracking website becomes more important than your wife.

Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.
It will take a week or so for your car to leave the factory in Wolfsburg to go to Bremerhaven (the shipping terminal). Tracking starts with the actual shipment from Germany to Australia, the earliest you can see this is when your car has been booked for shipment on a specific vessel, but for me, and quite a few others, you might not be able to track it until it has been loaded on the ship and the ship has left the terminal. For hvc01 and me, it wasn't showing up until about 2 days after the ship had departed, so don't panic too much.

Enter your VIN in the cargo ID field and hit Track. If there are no records found, try again each day When it does appear, you'll be able to see what ship it is on, and what the ETD is for Port Kembla.
Once you know what vessel it is on, you can use this site: https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais...tery:20/zoom:2 to track the movements of the vessel on a map. Sometimes you'll lose contact with it for days on end, don't worry, it hasn't sunk or been captured by pirates. As you track the ship on the map you'll realise how much your geographical knowledge of the west coast of Africa improves!

You lucky ducks! I signed in Oct. Requested a MY17. Called my dealer a number of times but they can only provide me with general time frames. No VIN. He says he cannot show be NADCON printout. I've contacted VWA for my ETA and they referred me back to the dealer. .
You won't get a VIN until the car is built. You should be able to ask the dealer when your car will be handed over to production. I didn't bother asking them for a screenshot of NADCON but they were able to give me the production date. Once you get the date, add about 3-4 weeks for the build to complete, then ask the dealer if they have a VIN yet.
The sailing schedule for WA is as follows:
You'll be hoping to get on one of the quicker routes, as the slower ones take a lot longer, even though your vehicle reached the terminal earlier.

Just realised you're in SA, not WA!

What if your car is already built and already assigned to you?
When can you expect to get the VIN, tracking and any other details?
Apparently, the VW ships to Melbourne before Adelaide.
Thanks for all your help guys.
Yes it's nice to have something tangible.
I sent the dealer an email on Friday and she provided the VIN.
I tried the tracking last Friday and there was nothing there yet so it must be still being built. Will try again when I get the chance.
My order was made just before Xmas and was initially given a July delivery date. That was amended to a May delivery date about 4 weeks ago.
If it's already built then the dealer will be able to look up the VIN via NADCON, just ask them for the VIN, you don't need to get a screenshot or anything.
VW don't provide any tracking details, apart from sending notifications about the status of your car via email. I have never received these though. The tracking is done using the W&W site, because the VIN is used as the cargo ID as per above.
It sounds like for Adelaide, the cars are shipped to Melbourne then transported by road to Adelaide. There are lots of vessels going to Melbourne. View the schedule here: https://www.2wglobal.com/webapps?min...ScheduleRWD%2F
