Hi All,
I have just “signed on the dotted line”.
I have now joined the waiting line of eager 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver with a rear rubber luggage tray.
Firstly, a debt of gratitude to REXman and especially Gladbach.
I have been very busy from last Friday to today.
I settled on the above as my preferred spec Tiguan and was in contact / dealing with:
1. Chris David - National Car Brokers. He is very helpful and was the first to offer $52,500 drive away. Chris provided that verbal quote on Friday afternoon. As I gave a commitment to another Broker I felt that I was obligated to hear from him so I advised Chris that I would let him know Monday (today). During the conversation Chris emphasised that his price included a “large” fleet discount.
2. Louis Upton – Bill Buckle VW Brookvale. He is the easiest going salesman I have come across. He was there when you had a question and left you alone to have a “play”. He let the car sell itself. We test drove both the 132TSI with DAP and the 140TDI R-Line. (We also tested the 206 TSI R-Line Passat wagon. I really like the get up and go, but Wife liked the Tiguan more as it is what she was looking for.) I found it very interesting that Louis was able to better Chris’s lowest price by $100. (No fleet discount applicable for me. I am just a lonely private buyer.) So, Louis offered $52,400 drive away. I also stated that I gave a commitment not to proceed until Monday afternoon (today)
3. James Chen – North Shore VW. (REXman originally recommended I speak with Charlie Woods, but he was on annual leave.) They are the closest to where we live, we will be having them service this car. I asked James to commit to $52,000 drive away and I would come in and not only place an order but put down a deposit as well. They asked for a photo of my driver’s licence and credit card to demonstrate I was legit. I provided that to him. He came back saying they could not agree to that price. He then asked me as they were the closest VW dealer and obviously would be servicing the car how much extra would I be willing to pay for the privilege. I stated that if they could not deal at $52,000 what could they? This was an impasse and we agreed to “let it go”.
4. Lloyd Wilson – CarLoans.com.au (Broker) (part of the John Cadogan [AutoExpert.com.au] group) I gave them the above details about a week earlier. Up until last Friday, they could only provide a $56,780 DA quote but stated the majority of dealers had not responded as yet. Today Lloyd rang me and quoted $51,887 drive away. I “thought” for about 0.000001 nano seconds and then said YES. I will take that price. One hr later, I received the purchase order, signed it and returned it. I have attached a screen shot of the details.
One important difference with this broker as against National Car Brokers. CarLoans.com.au charge the Dealer the $175 fee where National Car Brokers charge the client (you) a fee of $165.
I rang both Louis and Chris to thank them for their time and assistance and advised them that they were unsuccessful. (I try to treat people how I want to be treated - with respect.)
As I knew I would be waiting at least a few months for the Tiguan, I specified a 2017 build date. This has pushed the delivery date to late April to early May 2017. This actually suits us because we are going on annual leave end of March to end of April 2017.
Considering my last purchase of a new car was 14 years ago, I am very happy to have found VWWatercooled Forum and the very helpful people active on this forum.
I hope my experience has set a new low bar for dealers to go even lower. Good luck to all that go after me.
Best wishes,
David
Delivery to 2064 is my postcode. not the delivery date.

I think if the truth be actually known, the price quoted by Lloyd includes his $170 fee. Irrespective I am still very happy.

Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.
Got our VIN today. Dealer said it was ready to load in the next few days. Not showing wilhelmsen look up at the moment but think it could be on the Don Juan that leaves on the 30/11 meaning Melbourne arrival 8/1 and delivery right at the end of January. Which means it's exactly on schedule as that was what was agreed back in August when it was purchased.
looking forward to seeing it on the water and on its way.

Anyone got extended warranty ?
How much and is it worth it ?
Hi Aus_fas
I deliberately did not go with an extended warrenty as from experience I have never needed them. I had an extended warrantee on both a 1991 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 and a 2002 Nissan X-Trail.
I do not know if it was because they were Japanese built cars or something else. Both were very reliable. Both were regularly dealer serviced.
Car reliability should have come a long way so I have not included it when I finalised the purchase of my 162 TSI today.
Maybe some more experienced VW users can shed some reliability info to help you make up your mind.
Regards,
David
Hmm, intrestinghly VW website says Tiguan extended warranty is 2k (not sure if this is for old or for new) was offered NWC warrant for same amount ??.
Trying to clarify with dealer what's the catch.
Had bad experience with Saab in the past. Feel Japanese cars are cheaper and less prone to failure especially around transmission.
Not sure what to do.
Hi All,
If it helps, below is the Recommended Retail Price list for the MY17 full Tiguan range.
PS: These prices and charges are for NSW only.
Regards,
David
