Unfortunately Traffic Jam Assist cannot be readily enabled with VCDS. It requires a separate radar unit, as well as control unit from Continental in order to function. This is also why we do not get AEB on vulnerable road users.

    Hi All,

I am keenly looking to buy either the 162TSI with DAP & R-line in Silver or Grey OR the Passat 206TSI in Silver or grey. I have not driven either of these cars. We (wife and I) are gong this weekend to try out both the 140TDI Highline with DAP & R Line and the Passat 206TSI.

Coming from an X Trail, my wife likes the high seating position and may favour the Tiguan. As we are mainly driving short metro distances the diesel is out of the question.

We are both in our 60’s so no young children to haul around. We like the practicality of the Tiguan and also the Passat wagon. Also our garage is small and made of solid brick on 3 sides. The Passat is about 250 mm longer than our current X trail but still will fit (just. ) The Tiguan is shorter so no worries. Both are wider so we will have to loose weight.

This is our first venture into European manufactured cars and I feel the VW provides better value compared to both MB and BMW. Also from what I can make out VW’s servicing costs are virtually half that of MB or BMW.

Sorry for the long winded lead up to the question I am asking.

If I want the Tiguan to have a 2017 build plate what would the earliest order time and when would I be likely to take delivery? I live in Sydney metro.

    Thank you,
    David

    Hi David

Sounds like you have some interesting choices ahead!

Looking firstly at timing, my understanding is that the first Tig 162 Highlines won't be in the country until ?April. Sounds like there have been production delays to explain the delays v the diesel Highlines. So obviously you won't be able to test drive this car in the near future.

Regarding the Passat 206, I come from a golf R with similar outputs to the Passat but clearly less weight/more aggressive handling/tune etc. Compared to the Tiggy 162 of course you'll have a 44kw bump in power which is clearly significant. Theyre in stock so take one for a drive and you'll see Check out the Skoda 206tsi as well (also available to drive now).

Some initial thoughts which may help

Simple answer is that if you're getting a car built to order you can specify 2017 build. Expect delivery in March/April.

Hi tigger73 and andrew7. Thank you for your quick responses.

As you may have gathered it has been a long time since I purchased a new car.

I like the power of the of Passat. But I like the size and more practicality of the Tiguan.

The main decider will be my wife as she will be the main user and therefore must like what she drives.

On a unrelated point I really like the ease of hotting up the motor today as against the expense and time of yesteryear.

Either way I am sure i will be a very happy VW owner for many years to come.
    Regards
    David

    Hi all.

One of the main selling points for me is the absolutely fantastic digital drivers display. I have always had a soft spot for technilogy.

If you look at the bottom of my post you will see that I am using the most dangerous mobile in use today. The very notorious Samsung Galaxy Note 7. 😁😎

Interesting. I try to post this comment and I get a response from Taptalk telling me it is too short and have to add more text. ??????

I've been driving my Comfortline Petrol (132) for a week. It's fine, nicely put together and drives well. Open road I use sports mode. I have the driver assist pack and I think it would be a waste not to spend the extra for it. I twisted an arm or two and I got a pretty good price - effectively the DA pack for free.

One mind boggling issue. I cannot buy the as-fitted Michelins in Australia. I've contacted VW and Michelin. So far the response has been underwhelming to say the least. I will advise the forum when I get a final answer.
