the dealer we originally ordered our R-Line from (in December 2021) said that if we waited to get either (a) what we ordered but missing features/options that we wanted in March 2023 or (b) exactly what we wanted with all the options probably in Sept 2023 they would have honoured the contract price... and minus a piddly amount if we took the March 2023 de-specc'd option.
If we switched to any other car that they had in stock then it would have been at 2022/23 prices (i.e. a few K more)... but they didn't have anything remotely what we wanted anyway and really didn't put any effort into working it out with the wider VW network to see if there were alternative options.
So we went to another dealer that had brand new stock of what we wanted but as it was a new contract with them we just had to wear the price increase. They literally had a new R-Line arrive the morning I called them but the original purchaser had previously cancelled their order.
In short - if you are absolutely set on getting what you want and will wait the indefinite amount of time for it you definitely should argue to your dealer they should guarantee (in writing) your original price.
If you can't wait.... my advice is call around to other dealers and see what they have in stock or on the way and if it's quick enough just pay the extra few K... I know it means more money and it's probably a bit first world problem etc but sometimes the extra cost is worth the reduction in stress and anxiety.
