The sales manager has an RDO today and one of their senior sales staff checked the system. All I can think of is damage to the car and that it needs to be repaired?

Maybe. Or perhaps they have checked it, discovered an issue and have had to order a replacement part. I can't think of any other reasons why it would be delayed by that amount of time once it's actually in the country.
You have my sympathies. For what it is worth, I've been very patient so far and have been understanding in the fact that the production delays are out of the hands of the dealer, but if I were to receive the same phone call, I think I'd lose my sh** completely. I know that you've also been patient, and not pushy with them. You need to demand an explanation - maybe call the sales manager tomorrow when they're back. You ordered the vehicle in July ffs.

Thanks for the support mate.
Breathe in Breathe out. That's what I'm telling myself at the moment. The issue is out of my hands. I don't think there is anything I can do to make it go any faster. Just enjoy the car when it comes.
The sales manager will probably say it's out of our hands as it is with Patricks and they will deliver as soon as they can - that has been his mantra since day 1.
I suppose the only thing I can do at this stage is wait (which most people on this forum know a lot about) and when the car does come provide feedback to the dealership via the VW survey.
Throughout the 9 month wait, the guy who originally sold me the car left, the second sales person allocated to me has also left and I deal exclusively with the sales manager now - have no idea who will deliver my car!
This experience has made me think twice about getting a VW next time round - my wife's Polo GTI is up for replacement soon and with the experience I have had she is starting to look elsewhere.

This is the challenge for any seller of high value goods in Australia - the quality (or lack of) the retail channel. I used to be the marketing director for such a company - a well known brand name with products that could cost up to $250,000. Retailers often failed to meet the service and quality standards hoped for by the importer, whose brand reputation is at stake.
The knowledge, longevity of staff and quality of staff is always an issue. Unfortunately, car dealers are big enough businesses that you can't often get to deal with the owner. All importers of high value consumer goods would love to have a better retail channel than they have because the quality of the people who have the real connection with the consumer frequently fall short of the mark.
I buy my cars out of a regional dealership in Victoria. Have done for a decade they know:
I don't have to buy from them
That in fact buying from them is just a little bit inconvenient for me
I can access the boss
What i get in return is a quite personalised service - it does vary a bit from sales person to sales person but none have been bad. I have never had any issues, the cars (8 in total inc a Tiguan 162 in January and a Audi S3 next month) have been delivered on time or in the case of the S3 what looks like being 3 weeks early. I might not get the absolute rock bottom price but the prices I pay are competitive.
Worth it from my perspective.

The problem is, passing on your feedback after the fact won't change much, and more importantly won't change anything for YOU.
Just make sure that they know how your situation. For example, you've already sold your car, so it's not just about you being excited about getting the car, it's actually a major inconvenience now. Let's say for example, that once they receive the car, it usually takes around 4 days for them to do the paperwork, inspect and detail the car etc. If they know how pissed off you are, and that you really need the car ASAP they may make more of an effort to do it a lot quicker. Being patient is good up until a certain point, but the squeaky wheel gets the oil!
Also, I don't think that the delay would be out of Patricks. Even if the car was damaged, I'm sure that damage would be managed by the dealer, not by the port. The other thing is that it could just be a cosmetic repair that needs to be done, but they need to order a new bumper or something that will take a few weeks. You could negotiate to take the car as is and then bring it back when the part arrives for them to do the repair. All hypotheticals, but my point is that there may indeed be a way to expedite you taking delivery of the car.

Thanks Guys!
I'll give the sales manager a call tomorrow and ask for a specific reason as to the delay.
