I took delivery of my 162 today and must say it goes alright, in fact better than what I expected. We took it for a blast through Nasho south of Sydney and rounded up two bikes pretty easily. I thought it would have a rev limiter but I haven't found it yet and it was up around seven thousand a lot of the time and over that occasionally. It handles better than I thought, (no R line) and the motor definitely delivers some surprising performance. The throttle response from nail it to moving is a bit slow but I suspect they do that so the car is nicer to drive at slower speeds. I find the markings on the speedo strange as the instrument is not linear in markings changing from 80KPH and upwards losing the 90KPH major mark for instance.

Firstly, the accelerator has a far longer travel than the GTI, therefore taking quite a deliberate prod to get things moving. Consequently, I could not bring myself to anywhere near flooring the new car. We overtook a truck at one stage and I may have got to 3/4 throttle. At this stage it does not feel nearly as feral as the GTI did on full song, maybe due to not giving it enough gas.
The car is far quieter than GTI, and noticeably quieter than our other Tiguan. I'm pleased to have the 55 profile tyres as they help in that way, as well as protecting the rims from curb damage.
Drivers seat is very good and it is going to be wonderful not having to spend 5 minutes adjusting it after wifey has spent 5 minutes making it fit her.
Because we travelled home together I was unable to be silly, but with normal driving at sensible speeds through the hills it handled very predictably and was relaxing and very easy to drive.
The 7 speed DSG is an improvement on the 6 speed, smoother and more able to chose the correct gear, though the paddles are brilliant to sort it out when it is unable to predict the oncoming road conditions, such as down hill in to a tightish bend.
After dark we went for a cruise, Bloody fantastic!! At last I have a VW with lights that actually light the way. Having always been to poor to ge bi-zenons on previous V-dubs, LED'S were in the package this time so I may venture out in the dark now. The light up like daylight!
I love being able to slide straight out without hurting too.
I miss the note of the GTI and to be truthful, I will miss the well planted screamer that it was. I wont miss the excessive road noise and lack of space for carting the ever growing grandkids.
I think the long wait was well worth it and feel very glad and privileged to be able to share my stuff with all on this site.
PS----Will give an update when I can really give it the berries!
Awesome. Thanks for the review. I am sure it will change as things settle and it has few more km's. One can hope that you may be able to hear a little exhaust sound once it's really settled. Safe driving mate!

Ouch, sorry to hear that Gladbach, my dealer actually said it says may, but max was march, so was surprised to get an email saying it was built late December. They did initially say after that March was more likely still, but with the phone call today, it's been brought forward 2 weeks
