The 1.99% finance offer has really given a big push on moving all the 2018 plated cars (offer is for MY18 and MY19 stock cars so it's possible some 2019 plated cars may sneak through on this deal). I much rather see this type of offer rather than discounting the price as it doesn't hit second-hand prices so badly.

Yeah I took advantage of this deal and got an MY19 Allspace and also got about $7k off of the price at the same time...while usually a dealer will say they won't discount the price of the car with a special finance rate they are often lying and you can get money off.

Yes 1.99% is VW incentive and nothing to do with dealer discount. Sometimes VW offers incentives/specials and you get this on top of whatever dealer discount is being offered.

VWA would get hauled over the coals if thy try and control what dealerships sell for.... that would be Resale Price Maintenance.
of course, the chances of the ACCC actually enforcing it are slim to none....

Micky, we are not talking about resale value. We are talking about brand new prices which is set by the manufacturer as a price guide on what they should be paying for their goods. If the dealer is over-pricing their own product then the consumer has the right to complain to the ACCC they are being over-charged.

Micky, we are not talking about resale value. We are talking about brand new prices which is set by the manufacturer as a price guide on what they should be paying for their goods. If the dealer is over-pricing their own product then the consumer has the right to complain to the ACCC they are being over-charged.

Resale Price maintenance is a specific term in Consumer Law referring to the manufacturer/distributor controlling the price that dealers are selling goods for brand new, nothing to do with second hand values (though I can see how the confusion arises!)
