I had a high pitched whistling sound on my passat alltrack. Turned out it was the driver side mirror which i had done minor damage to at one point. When i reached a certain point it made a whistling noise which i could not pinpoint. The dealer worked it out and put a small piece of tape on the join between uppper and lower halves or the mirror and it was "fixed". Replacing a mirror is very expensive so i never got it fixed properly. Although i have replaced the tape once or twice since. Not saying that is your problem but might be worth a look or listen.

I've got a very similar noise. Its intermittent but can sometimes be heard if I dab the throttle in Park and sometimes while driving under certain conditions e.g. under heavier load like accelerating up an incline or engine braking from higher revs like in Sport mode as it holds the gear. Mechanic looked at it yesterday and initially thought it may be the turbo but doesn't appear to be, thankfully. Need to go back in a few days again so will see if he can inspect the tensioner and reply. Any further luck of your end?

Still battling with this problem so posting 2 vids in case anyone has had/seen something similar.
Regular mechanic had a quick look at the turbo (just hoses for leaking etc) and didn't think its that. He replaced the accessory belt but still ongoing.
VW had an initial look but want 3hrs (at $220/hr!) just to diagnose - their early thoughts are:
    - rattle noise coming from either the turbo or the center exhaust muffler when the car is hot. need more time to diagnose, remove exhaust from turbo for inspection of turbine wheel and wastegate will need all day rebook require car night before as needs to be cold
