    GVM of Tiguan models

Has anyone been able to find this published anywhere.

It is an essential figure especially if you are going to tow anything and yet VW dont include it in the specs .

I have searched Car reviews and they mostly say GVM not published.

Very strange as without that you cannot work out your maximum allowable loaded weight

I found this which may help

    https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/files/l...May%202016.pdf

EDIT FINALLY FOUND IT AT REAR OF MANUAL .

I was searching for the same thing. Very strange to not have it available. I might see if it’s in the owners manual. Surely there’s a legal requirement for it being available.

I found a South African site that listed the normal tigs gvm. 2220-2420, depending on model. If that’s accurate, it’s just an arbitrary number they’re adding on top of the tare mass- which is also stupid. As we all know the suspension and body isn’t made any different between trendline and highline.

Interesting that most listed printed info displays a 100kg Ball Weight.
However Hayman Reese list 200kg; http://www.haymanreese.com.au/parts/03190rw-4910936
They also have some restrictions on the R-Line Body Kit (as noted on their link).

Are their any weigh bridges that you could use to get the GVM?

Actually, just found this link. Might be useful for you; GVM Upgrades and GVM Downgrades - Coastwide Engineering Solutions

LS11 Code allows the GVM to be upgraded, Dave might be able to assist you.

What you get with GVM is not an actual weight It is a stated LIMIT of allowable weight

When you weigh a vehicle you get its actual loaded weight which should NOT EXCEED the Stated GVM

Just because HR make a 200kg towbar doesnt mean you can put 200kg on it

Also this will now be out of date afte the limits posted in the link above which has changed everything

What the ADR 's say is that you can put the limit on the towbar or the vehicle WHICHEVER IS THE LESSER

So 200kg towbar 100kg vehicle limit =100kg max

    100kg towbar 200kg vehicle =100kg

If you have to do a GVM upgrade as far as Im concerned you have bought the wrong vehicle as there are plenty that will do the job and it is inadvisable to stress anything above what its engineered for

The rules in QLD have changed re GVM upgrades and its a lot harder to get one after vehicle has been registered

    The stated descriptions are

Tare Dry weight from factory with 10L of fuel
Kerb weight ( in most cases) Tare plus full fuel tank
GVM Max allowable weight of loaded vehicle including towball weight if towing
GCM Total allowable weight of vehicle and trailer when hitched up
GTM Max allowable weight on axles only of a caravan
ATM Max allowable weight of caravan when sitting alone on axles and jockey wheel

You also have to check the max axle weight limits of the tow vehicle because it can be easy to exceed the rear axle limit

Been there made novice mistake and cost a lot to correct it including replacing the tow vehicle

Pg360-363 of my manual lists the gvm for each engine type. Doesn’t specify tig vs allspace, just a range.

my car weighs 1822 tare and has a gvm of 2540, so 718 total payload. This has to also allow for a full fuel tank)

Rear axle is 1370, front 1220.

I’m assuming the car is approx 60/40 weight distribution, so about 1000kgs of tare is already on the rear axles, leaving 370(ish) add 55l of fuel, leaves close to 300.

So the 200 towbar limit is pushing the friendship of what’s possible- never mind practical.

What exact model is that as I found the pages and it lists all the different models and none seem to have your figures

Heaviest straight Tiguan is 2360 GVM and most have a higher front axle rating than rear

This puts the kybosh on that idea right from the start

Rerating of GVM under code LS11 is permissible only on a light vehicle that is constructed on a ladder type chassis frame on which a cabin and/or body is mounted. Vehicles with integrated frame and body are not eligible.

So a Landcruiser , Jeep Grand cruiser??? or a Patrol are Ok pretty much anything else is not as all are unitary bodied
