Second thoughts go 265. The 255’s will be a bit stretched on a 10” width wheel and you’ll lose any rim protection the tyre offers.

Yep agreed. Tossing up between:

1) 265/40: https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...=10&offset2=35

2) 275/35: https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...=10&offset2=35

But leaning towards 265 given the fatter profile and closer spec to stock (i.e. lower % error)

It may also depend on availability/price of tyres in those sizes.

Not sure if they are stock size on any other car.

The bigger tyre will make your Speedo read closer to actual. The smaller one will read faster again by 1.6%.

Thanks. Can I just double check I'm reading the calculator right. So for the 275/35 r20 tire, the calculator is saying a speedo error of +1.64%. So when the gauge needle is at 60kmph, my real speed is FASTER or SLOWER than 60?

I'm torn between 265/40r20 and 275/35r20. I sway between:

265: thicker side walls, looks maybe more appropriate on and SUV, fills the wheel well more
275: fatter, more square on a 10" rim but less protection (thinner side walls) and wheel gap is bigger and so will need to lower..

I know it comes down to personal prefs, but any thoughts?

With the smaller diameter tyre (275/35) then your speedo will indicate a higher speed than actual as it will need to rotate more times for a given distance - the car thinks you have gone further/faster than you actually have.

I think the better size of the 2 is the 265/40 that is if you didn't want to run the stock 255/40 and have them slightly stretched.

Again not sure if anyone has tried to fit 285/35R20 under the guards but that is probably closest to stock diameter with a wider tyre. I would be mildly concerned with rubbing but if you're not lowered it's probably going to be fine. Maybe see if you can get a tyre shop to get some tyres in to test fit?? Or find a shop that has this size on the shelf.

The only downside of running 22's is having 30 profile tyres.

That first white one is clean as.

im thinking they will be to big and the tyre profile to low which will cause the minister for complaining about bumps not to be happy

Yes you'd need to have very good roads to make 22" workable for daily duties.

I'm not saying 20" is the limit but 40 profile tyres still have a reasonable sidewall but are sporty looking so is a reasonable compromise. You can get 21" off a late model Audi SQ5 or similar but then you'll be running a 35 profile (Q5 runs one size larger wheel/tyre combo than Tiguan).
