For now I'm hoping this thread will remain quiet and slowly disappear into the depths where aged forum posts go to die

The alternative is if I or others experience this in future, which isn't something I wish on any of us.

All electronics have a burn-in period where there is a higher failure rate at the start of their life. Usually these failures will be detected/eliminated in the factory, however you can still get some early in the equipment's life.

Fingers crossed it's just an isolated case.
