Option a) second hand gearbox, could happen again at any time
Option b) get pineappled by Vw and buy genuine from them at $3600 plus labour
Option c) go to a Vw specialist and get them to fit a new mechatronic unit, approximately $3500 fitted and programmed
Option d) contact accc let them waffle on and hope Vw Australia changes their mind.
I went option c with my Jetta, but it was way out of warranty at 20 years old and 125,000 klms. Apparently that’s about the normal mileage for a mechatronic to fail. Seems like **** to me but common enough.
