Which Fuel

Hi Guys,

For the 2018 Tiguan 132TSI Comfortline, what fuel are you using?

I’m currently using BP Ultimate and was advised from VW to use 98 but due to the increasing cost of fuel was considering downgrading to 95. Just wondered anyone’s thoughts on this.

95 should be fine imo

Also the pricing is negligible in 98 vs 95 over a year and filing up every week for the year.

At 6c a litre saving (just checked petrol spy for pricing in Qld) and filling up 60l your saving $3.60 per fill. Or $187.20 a year if you fill up every week.

If you fill with 95 and cause damage (which it won't) then your repair bill would be more than what you spend on the 98. Also, you probably spend more on a coffee in a week so why not use the better fuel for the price of a coffee?

You'll definitely notice it more coming from a TDI to petrol as you'll get about 600-700 k's out of a tank where TDI would of gotten 8-900.

Have generally been paying anywhere from 1.60ish to 1.80 for 98.

Your not wrong the Tig is definitely more thirsty. On a long decent run it was not uncommon to get 1100k to tank. Makes me wonder if I should of stuck with a diesel.

Nah, diesel is very different now and many countries are moving away from it due to the increased health impacts etc.

Personally I have also found that most people are not buying diesel as well and am now seeing petrol holding value better than diesel Tig's

If they bring the Bi-Turbo diesel in I will be the first in line to buy one and bugger the emissions!

Not the media, have a look at carsales and search the 140 vs 162.

Most 162's are priced higher than the 140 even though the 140 was more expensive new.

To me, the value of diesel in the top of the Tig's is not there even with fuel saving considered.

I considered a diesel Mercedes GLC (used) before settling on the Tiguan.
Pretty much all the dealer demos for sale were diesels. The petrols were selling fast, but diesels were harder to shift

Definitely better mileage with diesel, but we seem to be shifting away except for larger 4WDs where there’s still a strong bent for diesel for torque and economy
