    Eco mode

    Hi Guys,

I've purchased a new 2018 132TSI Comfortline and recently noticed that after selecting 'Eco' driving mode, when turning off the engine then restarting it doesn't seem to remember the 'Eco' mode. The instrument panel is showing 'D' (which would be 'Normal' mode) even though the driving profile is saying 'Eco'. I noticed if I select 'Eco' by either touching the screen or with the rotary dial (which would mean in this case turning the dial to another driving mode then turning it back to 'Eco') it then shows 'E' in the instrument panel as if it's now actually in 'Eco'. Has anyone else noticed this? I would of thought it would remember the last driving mode but it seems you have to select 'Eco' again to re-engage the driving mode. Weird, has anyone else experienced this?

No.. no-one else has experienced this.. you are the first... Better take it back to the dealership to get it looked at...

I am taking the piss though.. this comes up almost every other week...

Unfortunately, you need to select modes outside of normal each time you turn on the vehicle.. no idea why but I assume it's so your car always starts in a "normal" state for you then to choose how you would like to drive..

There is no coding that can fix this as far as I am aware...

Thanks Grugly, I was going to say would find it hard to believe 'I' would be the only one affected by this . That's fine and I get why it would revert back to 'Normal' but then why does the driving mode say 'Eco' ? I have since called my dealer and waitying for a call back from one of the techs to explain.... will keep you posted

I find in ECO mode the car drives like a POS, each time you back off the accelerate it fully disengages and when you need to hit the throttle again there's a slight lag.

Totally agree, it's very sluggish, possibly where it's holding in higher gears and the disengaging is to maximize fuel efficiency (according to the handbook) to conserve fuel. Still would like to know what's going on with driving modes. Has anyone noticed a considerable difference in fuel economy using Eco Mode?

The only time I can see that working "well" is when you're on the highway and at a constant speed, around town I doubt there's going to be any real fuel saving. Just like that STOP/START junk... some stupid marketer/strategist dreamt up that rubbish and told tech to implement it

Agree. Runs like a pig in city traffic and bogs down every time you put your foot on accelerator. Only good on highway, but coasting is disabled when ACC is active so net benefit is zero.
Probably an early beta of an emissions cheat program they left in there.

I have never driven in Eco mode, not even in Normal mode, always individual or sport...
