Selective quoting changed the whole context of what was originally written. I know why there is a neutral but that was not the context of what I wrote.
So you can tow the car or winch it onto a tilt tray when it breaks down (I'm sure all our Tiguans will meet a tilt tray one day lol).
Also if you need to push the car around.
Although 99.5% of the population would never use neutral nor would they know what it does for the 0.05% it comes in handy.

I know how it works, and I agree that engineers surely wouldn't deliberately design an inherent flaw such as this.... but I was unsure if there was a separate oil pump/active lubrication in the DSG boxes, as opposed to simply operating like a traditional box or diff, where the bottom of the gears bathe in oil & flick it all around while in-motion.
I will try to find the various concerns I've read and post the links, to demonstrate my question.
To clarify.... MY question is about when stationary at lights, ie: wheels/shafts are not rotating.
My apologies to OP for hijacking the thread - it wasn't intended!

My understanding is that the gearbox is not being properly lubricated unless the engine is running. Which is why in the owners manual it says not to tow in Neutral as you can do damage to the gearbox by overheating/friction while not being properly lubricated.
I don't think that there is any problem with doing what you are by moving to Neutral at the lights (with or without engine running). As long as you're stationary there's no issues. I doubt it provides any benefit otherwise it would be recommended in the manual.
Also the problems with overheating tends to be with the older versions of the 7 speed DQ200 dry clutch DSG in the lower power/torque Golf/Polo/Passat. It has never really been an issue with the Tiguan as all models use a wet clutch (either DQ250 in FWD models or DQ500 in AWD). The wet clutch boxes have a lot less issues with overheating and so I maybe see some reasoning to do this in a DQ200 equipped car but not in a Tiguan.
I use neutral sometimes when moving cars around in the drive so that I don't have to do a cold start. That's about the only time I use the Neutral gear.

I have this GST "clunk" in my MY2018 Tiguan Mk2 with 60K kms on the clock;
Going to the mechanic tomorrow. Any ideas if it's the clutch, mechatronic or something else? It sounds like it happens when the gear changes from neutral to in-gear, but it's pretty much all the time when driving as well, it's just much easier to hear when reversing from stand still and then letting go of the accelerator. Also, my gear change from D1 to D2 is especially jerky.

This is definitely not clutch pack! Search my posts .I get this problem since the day 1. I purchased car . And after3.5 years fighting with VW Crooks and only on end when DSG Started to jump on resume and to roll back on hills and was dangers to drive , than they replaced with complete brad new transmission with latest revision ( new clutch pack default installed ) + in set with new bevel box mounted ( as was also leaking since day 1) at VW Factory shipped from Germany jus to bolt on here on my car . And it didn't resolve issue what you demo here in your video! VW just unable to Tiguan clunking doggy drivetrain !
Lots of same issue world wide with exact DQ500 DSG on MQB Skoda, Seat VW. I think even Audi q3 new one has on forums same reports with clunking .
Let me know if you find solution or Fix for this clucking going back and forth, reverse, slow drive etc...
Best to check Sight quick tap on gas pedal and going slowly in circle with full wheel turn to Left or right on big parking empty space, and you will notice even more how Bad is this rubbish DSG Drivetrain made ! Should be not sold and made with this embracing factory production fault!
Yes VW dealer. There's also quite a bit of jerk in the car when this happen. It's not isolated to only when reversing on a slight incline, it's just the easiest way to demonstrate.
