Are DSG Jerky in 1st Gear and prone to Failure ?
Had a hire care today for work, and it had a 'Dry DSG'
It was as Jerky as crap when taking off in 1st gear.
It felt like I was driving a manual when you try to take off in 1st gear in a manual.
When I test drove the Tiguan, I don't recall taking off in 1st gear being jerky.
As the VW Tiguan is a 'Wet DSG', are 'Wet DSG' known to be smoother and more reliable ?

7 speed DSG in the Tiguan is a wet clutch. It should be smooth.
Sounds like the hire car may not have been treated nicely....

The 3,000km is plenty of time to ruin the car or transmission.

If someone has taken the hire car and done a lot of launches. And or tried to stall up the clutches then they could trash it fairly quickly.
The dry gearboxes tend to overheat and then the clutch packs will get damaged.

Do Tiguan DSG Wet Clutches have issues with over heating ?
Are Tiguan DSG Wet Clutches easily damaged compared to standard 8 Speed Auto ?

Dq500 wet 7 speed has been in the Tiguan since 2011. These are brilliant. Almost no issues.
Only rare problem I’ve seen in 7 years here is on a high km Transporter.

I had a dry in my polo 6r and would never buy one again. Okay when new but slowly got worse before clutch kit replaced at 18mths. There was a recall/firmware update and something else from memory relating to the dsg also. Same as you describe jerky on take off. It was esecially bad if taking off on intersection with a slight crest in the middle. I found it was a little better in sports mode but there goes fuel economy. From what i have read the tiguan wet clutches are more reliable. If not this will be our last VW.

I have been wondering about the DSG since I took delivery of mine. Mine is jerky in reverse and when changing from 3 down to 1 on occasion. It certainly is noticeable and I am considering taking it back to dealer to query it, now that it has done 2000km.
It is definitely NOT smooth, most of my low speed manoeuvres are jerky

I wish VW Australia would offer a standard 8 Speed Auto with Torque Converter as they do on the Tiguan in Canada and other countriesI have been wondering about the DSG since I took delivery of mine. I would rather have a smooth and reliable ride and use more fuel than a jerky one. But that's me
