Physical dimensions is not the main criteria. I look at the total package including the "smart" technology, cost of servicing, depreciation, etc.

Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.
Interesting that the dimensions are similar. Having tested them both the XC40 felt smaller.

If you are in the market for these cars look at what you don't get rather than what you do. You will find the XC40 is full of compromises.

I think Xc40 is smaller windows, smaller interior space, smaller bootspace and smaller engine.
Having read the Wheels short review of the launch pack XC40, it sounds a good thing but it seem that the Q2 is more of natural rival for it.

Sorry, I should have clarified.. When I was in the market the benchmark I set was the XC60 rdesign Petrol which was on offer without negotiating for 85k. Then the XC40 came out and I looked at that in rdesign Petrol vs the XC60 and felt that although $20k+ cheaper it was no where near the league of the 60. I was hoping for a smaller version of the XC60.
The interior, the drive, the tech just felt budget vs the XC60.
I couldn't justify the XC60 price and because that was the benchmark the XC40 had no hope. Then I started considering VW Tig Rline which although doesn't have the interior quality of Volvo seemed way more bang for buck and more "fun".
