Clicking sound from front area of TIguan when doing a 3 point turn or reversing

So I can't find the old thread (someone link to it so I can put in here), but I've finally resolved the horrible clicking noise when you reverse up driveways then move forward OR when doing full lock, 3x point turns.

I first experienced this at about 2k kms however when I brought it back to VW they were unable to replicate it (I didn't give exact procedures on how to reproduce the noise)

Then it got progressively worse at 10k kms to the point even my wife noticed it (she never notices anything, not even rattles in the car).

Then at about 12k km or so it just got annoying. You'll stop at the lights and take off and it would click, turn into driveways it would click, etc.

I noted this all down, and then at it's 15k service I provide exact instructions to replicate the noise. The service guys confirmed the issue and said they would need the car to remove the entire front bearing assembly on both front wheels, re-grease them with the correct grease (incorrect weight before I believe) and re-install, re-torque.

    TPI is 2052424/4

    The parts they required:
    • VWG052109A2 New Grease (correct weight)
    • VWN91233201 hex nut (no detail, I assume the nut that holds the CV to the hub
    • VWWHT000237 screw (no details again, terrible descriptions, probably something that holds the CV boot together)

So noise gone, and I'm happier

Thank you for this. My car has this issue and the dealer said it was the brake pads upon first application after a change of direction (ie driveway exit, 3 point turns)

What rubbish, it's not a 1970s Holden Commodore with PBR calipers

Just noticed this on mine, happens with full lock. Very feint clicking and can only be heard with music off. Currently at just under 5k km. Think it's worth taking in soon or fine to wait for the 15k service? Not sure what damage it could be doing.

Take it into them, and show the service manager the clicking. Even list the TPI out for them to look up.

It's actually a known fault/issue with the car however VW won't recall the cars and are fixing it case by case when reported.

99% of manufacturers do the same thing so VW are not the singular culprit for stuff like this. Mazda are experts, fix as needed and admit nothing but at least they fix it with no cost or argument. Anyone who has problems with a Mazda diesel do not take it to anyone other than a dealer as most likely it will get fixed under good will if it is out of warranty. Off topic but it might help someone.

Sorry, perhaps my wording was a bit strong.. I wasn't singling out VW, other manufacturers are just as bad too.

...and just because it’s few with the problem in the forum, it doesn’t mean that all Tiguans have the same fault with hundreds of thousands made.
