Care package from dealership. Ceramic coating and interior

Hey guys just wanted know your thoughts on the care package that vw offer on purchase of a new car is it worth the $2500 or is there a better option outside for the ceramic tint and interior guard.

Definitely go with a local professional detailer. The markups on these offerings at the dealership is massive.

You can get the same job done at 1/3 price elsewhere. Or for similar $ get the top spec job done by a professional detailer using Gyeon/Opticoat and full paint correction.

You could save approx $1k getting it done by a professional car detailing place. If it was my money, id rather give it to a professional detailing business rather than the dealership - generally car dealership detailers are very average in terms of quality/attention to detail.

But in my opinion, coatings are not necessary if you look after the car to a reasonable degree. If you give the car a wash every few weeks, remove bird poos etc with water in between washes, and give the car a polish and sealant once a year it will look good for many years to come.

Just bear in mind with ceramic coatings, if you do go ahead with a coating, you will have to re-apply it every few years (time varies from one brand to another) so its an ongoing cost (and its a considerable cost).

All coatings get affected by fallout/oxide layers forming on the surface.

You often will need to perform a decontamination to remove this layer and then reapply the protection product.

I haven’t yet had a paint protection product that worked “for life” without any maintenance.

The reason I use a ceramic coating is to protect the clear coat from etching from bird poo, etc. Some of it can be quite aggressive and can damage your paint within a couple of hours.

Basically its a sacrificial layer added to the clear coat on the paint to protect it. So it will deteriorate/wear off slowly over time as sun/UV/washing/touching etc. Similar to how a wax/sealant is a sacrificial layer added to the clear coat to protect it, although the ceramic layer is longer lasting/more durable than a traditional wax/sealant so it will last longer.

It does not deteriorate in terms of looking bad. It just wears out and then fails to protect the clear coat any longer.

So I did some research and am going with a detailer in Burwood called Mirror Finish Detailers.
They have rave reviews use what you tube told me was the best product by far for ceramic coatings.
The use gtechniq coating I'm getting the crystal serum ultra that supposedly last nine years (I only keep my car's for three)
They also are coating my wheels and break calipers with a different coating.
Interior Scotchgard and ceramic tinted windows all for $1600 00.
Have to give up the car for two days tho.
I'll keep posted how it turns out when it goes in next week.

Nice work! Yes the decent coatings will take a couple of days - most of the work is in the surface preparation plus it'll likely need to sit under heat lamps for 24 hours to properly cure the coating. It'll be infinitely better than the dealer car package coating which likely would have been a quick wash and apply the product in a couple of hours with no heat lamps. The interior protection is a can of scotch guard for the fabric/carpets. It'll cost you $12 at the supermarket.
