I have dropped some ATE ceramics onto the front of my Tig R, they were a bit hard to get initially as supply has only just started to come into Oz in the past 6 months. The R has the same 357mm front disc as the Mk8 Golf R, rears are vented 310mm, and I fitted the DBA Street Series on there.
Massive improvements in dust - as in a complete absence of black stuff, just a gradual pale grey/brown dust that is hardly visible over a few weeks.

I know you were not asking me specifically - but I can answer the question. Brake feel with the stock VW pads was something I hated personally. They were extremely touchy and wanted to throw you through the windscreen all the time.
The intial "bite" with ceramic pads is not as grabby, but makes braking smoothly much easier to regulate in my experience. It will take some getting used to initially, and you may not like it for a few days until such time as you get used to it.
Once you get used to it, I much prefer the way the ceramic pads react.
So got the brakes replaced. Only front brakes needed replacement. Rear are still 60% good and can go for around 25k kms as per the mechanic. It was nice enough from him to let me know and saved me money.
I will drive around for few days and will see how is the experience.
Now that Lucas has said the VW brakes were too sensitive, I kind of agree with it. Recently it was getting very sensitive and i was hard braking especially at low speeds. Let's see how I go with brembo.
Wow, a decent mechanic.
Interesting that you have a similar opinion to Lucas about the standard sensitivity.
Lucas, I appreciate your feedback too.
I actually kinda like to feel of the original brakes and by comparison find them much nicer (except for the brake dust) than my previous vehicle that had a very hard feel to them but no dust. It was a Landrover Discovery Sport and at 100,000km had no disc wear and very little pad wear.
When the times comes to replace the pads in our 2 Tig's, I'm really considering the ceramic pads for the wear and minimal brake dust.

I love the feel of the OEM pads on the GTI and am looking at the DBA Street series I think it is for my first pad change.
