Boot floor cover wont stay up

The manual says the boot floor lid covering the tyre is supposed to stay in place when you lift it up but mine does not. The little plastic catches are not strong enough to hold it in place by itself. Anyone else have this problem and solved it?

I had a problem with the plastic catches on my car - one got accidentally pushed in. I needed to get a screwdriver in behind it and lever it out. I suggest this may be a fix for you also. I think the design of these tabs is not fantastic.

Yeah i levered them out a bit with a screwdriver as well but they are still not strong enough to hold in place for very long. Need springs behind them or something. Useless...

Yeah and as soon as they get pushed around they get weaker so I'm resigned to the fact that they're not going to keep the boot floor up now.

It's not a fantastic design. Would be better off with a pin that could be extended to lock the floor into the "up" position.

Mine are quite stiff , maybe I haven't used them enough yet. Do they loosen a lot with use? Stupid me I actually didn't realize you had to push past the resistant at the beginning for the detend to hold it up. Would it be easy to replace the spring with something stronger?

There's no spring behind them - it's just a piece of moulded plastic. If you push it too hard it will permanently deform (then you have to get a screw driver in behind and push it back out). And yes pull the boot floor up past these tabs and the idea is that the tabs keep the floor from falling down on top of your head when you're getting the spare tyre out.
