Beach driving - off road modes

I’m taking my allspace to the beach in a couple of weeks.

Any obdeleven settings that can give a bit more sand ability? I currently have the awd/haldex set to quiet/less noise mode. I don’t know if this applies to all drive modes, or just the normal mode.

Googling is struggling to give much absolute info.

I believe in off road mode it constantly sends power to the rears, similar to an AWD. When I first got the car, my wife and I took it to Capertee during a pretty wet time. Spun all 4s and sprayed a very equal amount of mud each corner haha.. yes I giggled like a child

It's only when the car is in normal mode the haldex is on demand and sends power to the rears when front wheel speed exceeds a tolerance when compared to the rear wheel speed.

Tomorrow I’ll find out how it handles the coffin bay national park. Have dedicated wheels/tyres, bought a shovel and those plastic tracks things

Ps- 17’s are waaayyyy comfier than the 19’s. Less grip though and a bit more vague and noisy(tread pattern for both those points)

No change to fuel consumption.

I had similar impressions when changing from 18” to 16” very soft ride, slight decreases in handling but no real word. Change to fuel consumption.

How do I add pics on the mobile site? Is it possible? On my pc it’s straight forward.

Currently reached the turn around point of our off-roading.

Gonna video some of the bits on the way back.

Have a few pics already.

In short, the car is brilliant. Off-road mode works great as it.

The only concerns are front bumper and underbody(plastic sump especially) clearance when navigating rocky/washed out sections.

1st gear is low enough to be careful and precise and the suspension control is brilliant.

Not as much travel as proper 4x4s, but it’s composure-within it’s travel is as good as I’ve felt.

Once I picked up my speed and lowered the tyre pressures, there hasn’t been a single bogged/hung up on something/loss of momentum or traction problem.

Some of the sections have been proper 4x4 territory too.

Almost lost the front bumper twice(luckily sand was deep and I just scooped it, rather than it tear off the bumper)

Best to use Tapatalk app on a mobile device and it's even easier to attache pics than on a PC

For videos you're best uploading to youtube and using the special embedded video icon on PC. I find this works best. You can't upload video to this site directly (yet).

You can get underbody protection. Probably if you were going to do some half-serious off-roading it would certainly be recommended.

Also the Adventure limited edition model came with different front bumper with improved approach angles I'm pretty sure.

Made it back. Took a couple of videos of some bumpy bits and a long one which shows the sandy sections(including the moment I got partially bogged- as explained below)

The one vehicle(a patrol) I came across on the wholy single lane track, was in the deepest sand.

Had to pull off the tracking into the loose stuff and stop.

Got stuck for a moment, so reversed back a few metres and then gave it some beans.

Got out under its own steam and quite controlled too.

The real 4x4 waited for me(once he had passed me) which was nice. I’m sure he was thinking ‘not another idiot in a city car to have to pull out!’

The car performed faultlessly. Has tons of surface scuffs along the sides now(most will wash off, a few will need a wax job) and sand in the bumper(and engine bay?) with a ‘bonus’ light coating of dust/sand on the inside of the cabin- despite having the a/c on recirc mode and all windows closed...

All in all 10/10 considering it’s realistic expectations/limitations.

The chassis, sunroof and interior components never creaked or showed signs of looseness. Which is strange as on the bitumen I have always had several annoying rattles in the pillars, roof console, doors and dash.

Will post up some stuff soon.
