Thread: APR Tune - 162TSI - worth every $$

Skoda Octavia RS 230, pretty much turbocharger from mk7 golf R, bigger inter cooler, R600 intake, down pipe and full exhaust, Revo stage3 tune and DSG stage2 tune resulting in 400hp@wheels with pretty good performance results
Revo likes to advertise bogus power numbers, strap these cars on a Mainline dyno can I can assure you it's not making 400hp

A stage 1 tune for a 162TSI apparently goes to 245kW from 162kW with no hardware changes. I'm still planning to still reflash mine and strap it to a Mainline dyno to see what the real differences are like compared to their fairy numbers.

I don’t care too much about output figures but performance numbers is what’s important, just from performance side of things, numbers that car does (0-100, 100-200, 1/4 mile) with mods it has, is it good value for money

Yes I agree Revo/APR numbers are pretty rubbery and hard to prove.

But moreso what I actually do think is misleading is VW claiming the stock figure of the 162TSI is 162kW. Now that is misleading.

How do you get a 1600kg car from 0-100 in 6.5sec with only 162kW?

The answer is you don't. You actually need an output closer to 180kW to get that sort of number.

I've had a few Tiguans on the same dyno and when I ran my stock 162TSI on it I ws left scratching my head. The stock 162TSI was putting out at the wheels the same as a stage 1 155TSI. Now how is that possible? The stock 155TSI was 120kwaw and stage 1 144kwaw. The stock 162TSI put out 145kwaw which if you factor in drivetrain losses puts it at around 180-185kw stock. Which matches up with the 0-100 times of 6.5sec and also the claims of the stage 1 tunes increase to 235kw.

I am still yet to see a before/after dyno that backs up the APR/Revo claims. I don't necessarily doubt the stage 1 figures, however I think the stock figure is bogus and the marketing guys conveniently use it so it make the tunes look better on paper.

For the 162 that would be great

I would like to know the real dyno and not fairy numbers as well. What do you think the dyno will display for the 162 ?

On a Mainline dyno, I'm guessing about the 130 to 140kW ish mark at the wheels.

Then I'll get someone to flash it on the spot and I'll run it up again. I spoke to the guy who runs Eurotech Performance and he is happy to come out to Wetherill Park and flash the car whilst it is on the dyno.

Should be fun, but I'm still on the fence about doing it as the car is still under factory warranty.

Sounds like a great idea. Please post your results.

    VW Tiguan 162 Rline (with Stage 1 ECU): | 235 kW & 516nm | 5s 0 - 100 km/h | $57,000 DA

    Porsche Mecan: | 185 kW | 6.7s 0 - 100 km/h | $91,015 DA

    Porsche Mecan S: | 250 kW | 5.4s 0 - 100 km/h | $108,679 DA

For the extra cost it does not seem like a Porcshe Mecan is worth the extra money ?

I like the top chart the most, derived torque

If you have RPM then all you do is change the torque reading into derived torque!

I guess you can fudge charts / figures power and torque, derived or at the wheel

But the one that maybe matters the most is doing a real world 0-100 km/h for a Tiguan 162 Rline + Stage 1

Not sure if these are legit

    ECU Stage 1: 0-100 km/h 5.27s
    YouTube

    ECU Stage 1: 0-100 km/h 5s

Would prefer tests / posts from Tiguan owners in this forum

    Of course, 1/4 and 0-100 km/h doesn't lie.

However generally Mainline dynos read properly if the person operating it knows what they're doing.
I've been using dynos for years and know how to manipulate them as well.

Dyno Dynamics is the best, unplug the ambient air temp probe and off you go

But what infuriates me is when Revo is saying their tune can take a car to 235~245kW, come on we know the stock turbo can't even physically flow that much air.
