Ah, I hadn't heard about German Performance Garage, I'll go see them tomorrow!
Thanks Melbourne_Tiggy
Go VolksMuller, they are the northern master distributors for APR. They have also opened a tuning shop in Castle Hill “German Performance Garage.” I’m VIC based but have heard good things about them.

That’s interesting. Maybe because VW didn’t make their cut on the upgrade they are a bit salty?
I got offered the “power upgrade” by two different VW dealers, both quoted $3500 for what you can get for just over a thousand, and they use APR. I know of one customer that paid that sort of freight to the dealer, it was a GTi. When I got my install done there was a brand new Golf R that the dealer dropped off, 38klms on the clock, no idea what they stung him. Both cars were delivered as new, upgraded performance vehicles.
Would have thought if VW knew my car had a tune they would have told me, especially considering it’s since had a front headlight replaced under warranty?

Yep, you can have it reverted back, the concern is that VW Service techs can detect the fact that modifications have been made to the ECU (I think it's just a counter of the number of times the ECU has been flashed) and ASSUME that the additional flashes were outside of warranty.
Most people that get their cars tuned get them serviced at VW independent workshops and this avoids a lot of hassles. Only go back to the dealer if there is a warranty item that needs to be fixed.
It's only really an issue if the dealer has to hook your car up to the computer as this will check/flag up if the ECU has been modified.

With no reference or finger pointing anyone here, I reckon this “assumption” about dealer techs knowing your car has had a tune and then had it removed, particularly if everything else on the car is OEM (no exhaust mods or anything visual) is a load of BS. I’m going to dig around a bit and see what I can find other than what’s on this forum. When it comes to warranty, everyone, not just car dealerships will look for any excuse not to have to shell out. There’s more scare mongering on tuning then there is on an impending cyclone yet tens of thousands of cars are tuned every year.
The amount of Euro tuned cars both here and o/s is staggering. The morning I got my car tuned there were 4 million dollars worth of Porsche’s lined up before me getting tunes, it wasn’t worth counting the VW R’s and GTi’s lining both streets, I reckon 70% of them were brand spankers. That was in the first two hours of the day. Tuned, late model cars are absolutely everywhere and it’s not isolated to young hoons in 5 year old Golf R’s and GTi’s.
There’s a lot of axes to grind in arrogant, ignorant dealerships especially when they miss out on robbing you more coin.
All you gotta do is see how many are robbed blind with paint protection to get the jist. I specifically asked the tech if there were any fault codes or any concerns after the 2000klm service, I told him I drove the car hard after 1000klms (which wasn’t true) to see if any eyebrows were raised. His response was that the car was fault free, no residual codes and was running exactly how it should.
If someone comes up with some fact, other than “reliable sources” or multiple individuals agreeing, to me it’s just talk. If the facts show as true, I will happily stand corrected.
At the end of the day, I wouldn’t return my car to OEM even if my warranty was void. This is a decision that each individual has to make, like I said in an earlier post it’s risk v reward. My car performs exactly like it should in the first place, and after tune there is absolutely no way physically you can tell, it does everything it did before tune, no grumpiness, no dash lights coming up, nothing. It’s perfect as if it came from the factory right until you put your foot down.
If the car was highly strung from the factory, like a lot of 4 cylinder TD 4wds these days, there is no way I’d have considered a tune. With mild mechanical smarts, it’s not hard to see how detuned the 162 engine is and I’m not planning on taking this car to its very limits. After stage 1, the car is a completely different animal and wouldn’t swap it for quids.
All APR tunes are the same, regardless of the dealer/the so called "tuner" etc. They're just a flash, and basically just that. The maps are designed by APR for APR resellers/dealers.
Dealer 1 vs Dealer 2 = Same tune, same tune file
Stage 1 from Dealer 1 = Stage 1 from Dealer 2~X

Not sure if this link will work but someone posted about detection previously in the mk2 tuning thread:
