    Worked out my issue
I was using a different google account for AA vs the account I was using on my phone
Once I was using the same account I haven’t had any issues

If then switching back to Waze, it would also be blank.
I would then need to cancel the navigation, restart Waze and then restart the navigation in Waze and it would work again.

    Has anybody else found this?

EDIT: apologies for the out of focus picture

I too use Waze only because VW maps is active on AID ( thru Android auto). Too bad Google maps doesn't allow this

Yeah, I actually prefer Waze for it's warnings, speed indicator and generally find it no worse or better for finding the shortest/fastest route to my destination

Not sure if this has happened to anyone else. For a while I have been able to route using Waze via Android Auto and have the VW AID on simultaneously (AID is not on active route) with a simple plug my phone and launch Waze. Recently when using a navigation route thru Waze, the AID switches to a blank screen with message Navigation on mobile device. Same as if you trying Google maps and AID.

Searched online and found a work around.

    1) Plug in your android device and connect to AA (i don't have Apple so I can't comment if this method works)

    2) VW nav start a route (any route) and have it display on the AID. ( I have the 8.0" unit)

    3) Switch to Waze on AA and start your actual route.

    4) Switch again to VW nav and stop the route & navigation. Then go back to Waze.

A bit fiddly but this worked for me. I'm not sure how to get it back to the simple way of just plug in and launch Waze. Have tried going back to an earlier version of Waze and no dice. Will keep testing earlier versions of Waze when possible.

Hope this is work around helps others.

yeh i used to do this too and noticed it stopped working recently

thanks for the workaround.. seems too fiddly to be worth it on my short drives, but will keep in mind for long distance stuff!

on another note; my Android Auto connection drops intermittently. Some trips there are no issues, other times it will connect for a few mins then disconnect, then reconnect then disconnect etc >.<

ive reinstalled AA, rebooted phone and headunit. issue happens on old and new version of AA

the wife doesnt have any issues with CarPlay.

(one thing i haven't yet tried is swapping out the USB-C cable)

    anyone else seeing similar issue?

Hi note that in the later versions of AA to get to development mode you need to click repeatedly on the version number under settings and the bottom instead of about and then click about Android auto .

    Try the cable swap.
Also what brand phone, OS version and AA version are you using?
