    All Windows Opened Automatically

    Hi everyone,

I had a Blackvue D900S dash cam and Cellink Neo battery pack installed in my car by a reputable auto electric workshop last Thursday. The camera operates in parking mode while the car is off and runs off the battery pack.

This morning I woke up to move my car so the missus could get out. I put my hand on the door handle to unlock the car, it didn't unlock. I look at the side mirrors and they're unfolded. Being 5AM and stepping straight out of bed my vision is a little blurry. I'm staring into what I thought was the window until I put my hand inside the car all of the windows had opened at some point.

Has anyone seen similar? The only thing I can associate with it is the Cellink battery went flat at some point last night. Wondering whether that event could trigger something electrical in the car which would cause the doors to unlock and the windows to come down.

Being a new car and just having the camera installed, I'm not sure whether it's related to the install or not.

I was just thinking the same.... I did have my keys in my jeans all last night. Wouldn't the car at least lock itself after a period of time? I have a feral cat issue in my area so I'm thankful they didn't make the Tiguan their toilet last night

Would doubt it and its unusual for the Cellink to go flat so soon.

I have a BV 750 and and a 450 in mine and have it locked in the garage. Cameras are wired off a spare fuse socket and turn off with ignition and so far no probs and I dont expect any as had same system in the Passat but with parking mode and never had a problem

What were you jeans up to during the night Sounds like pressure on the button wound the windows down.

With my camera's and a full charge the Cellink says it will last 20hrs through the app. I didn't do much driving yesterday so I'm guessing that's why it died down. The installers left the battery pack on 5A instead of 9A even though it's hardwired so takes a little longer for it to charge up (still pretty quick!). It's also installed in the dash so I can't easily get to it.

So I let the battery run down again after its short charge this morning and the windows haven't gone down yet. I also tested the scenario of winding down the windows using the remote, then walked away. I came back a few minutes later and the car was locked with the windows down. Unlike this morning where it was unlocked.

Maybe I'm going crazy and the car was actually locked this morning.......

I’ve had my car unlock itself during the night, two nights in a row last week. A couple of random times in the months before that, plus a couple of my fault.

Keys kept in a bowl, out of harms way.

Never had the windows come down though.

I suspect this is just more vw ‘stuff’ which isn’t acceptable, but we buy their cars as is, why would they improve?

Bugger... I’m really hoping it was the keys in pocket scenario and not something bigger, especially with the wet weather approaching. I’ll be taking car port priority for the next few weeks I think.

Really wish we had CarNet here, could check it remotely!

It sounds like when you had the key fob in your jeans pocket it has pushed and held the unlock button at some stage.

If you hold down the unlock button on your key fob it should unlock the car then open all the windows. Alternatively, if you hold down the lock button on your key fob it will lock the car then close all the windows. It is a very useful feature if you want to open the windows remotely to cool the car down on a hot day as you approach it or if you have left the windows down a bit during the day while parked outside and you want to close the windows remotely because of the weather.

Two MQB platform vehicles in my household. Only mine has experienced remote weirdness - and that is due to a ‘pocket activation’ of the tailgate opening.

Of note, VW are not alone in this kind of remote behaviour in my experience - the same thing has happened on a few vehicles i’ve owned.

The issue in all cases was because I activated the remote. I’m yet to personally witness any kind of situation where windows wound down all by themselves, doors locked or unlocked without intervention, or such. That’s on any vehicle i’ve owned.

Cam only speak from my experience - but I would suggest that in all the cases reported on this thread, the reason the doors unlocked or the windows rolled down was related to them unintentionally activating the remote control, however much they believe or claim otherwise.
    Cheers

Agree doc, I only discovered the key fob window opening/closing feature after stumbling onto it while looking up the glovebox manual for how to get the Caddy's windscreen wipers into the service position. The wife had previously reported parking the Caddy at the shopping centre and coming back to a car with partially/fully open windows a couple of time (attributable to pocket activations where she has put the key fob into her jeans pocket then carried the toddler on her hip). Now I regularly use the feature to air the heat out of the car on a hot day and close up the windows remotely if it starts to rain or as it starts to get dark.

An interesting aside, the window opening/closing feature goes back at least as far as the Mk3 Golf/Ventos (and I assume the same era Passats). I discovered that if you turn and hold the key in my Mk3 GL Ventos in the open or the lock position after opening/closing the central locking it will then open/close all the electric windows (well at least the ones where the window regulators are not unserviceable). Does not work in my Mk3 CL Golf because it has manual windows
