As a result I've disabled the remote window open feature in the car settings. I'll re-enable it when the warmer weather comes back and there's no risk of waking up to a flooded car.
It can depend on when you do it too. So even if you store your keys in a bowl overnight, when did you put them there? Did you check your car after putting them in the bowl?
The holding open in my pocket trick has happened to me a few times with my last Tiguan (MY10), thankfully yet to have it happen with the new one, though it is pretty easy to do.

Another option.
Code the car, with VCDS, to use the rain sensor, for the windscreen wipers, to close all the windows if it detects rain while your parked.
This would also work if you’ve intentionally opened the windows/sunroof and forgot about it until after the storm hits.
Might just stop your Tig turning into an expensive fish bowl.
Does that rain sensor work while the car is parked and turned off?
Yes. If it’s programmed too.
I haven’t done this particular coding myself but I have seen it out in the web of things.
Edit. Found it already. Have a read here. Looks pretty straightforward. Might try it on my Audi and the wife’s Tig when I get home.
