I fitted some 16" Tiguan MkI rims and 225/70R16 All-terrains - very happy!

Mine is a 110TSi - not sure of the clearance on higher-spec models!

Not particularly 'giggly' - but here you go.

These are OD of 721 (compared to original 711 on 17's and 719 max placarded)

    Hi All,
just wanted to give everyone an update and thanks to all who provide some useful input to date.
I have finally managed to get a good second wheel set for my new Tiguan to make it more suitable for some dirt roads.
Bob Jane managed to get me some nice matte black rims (King Wheels) and fitted some new Yokohama GO12 AT/S tyres on to them
The best possible size to make this all working ended up being a 235/60 R17 rubber.
I'm also picking up some new snow chains for those tyres, so with all that my upcoming trip to the national parks and snow down south looks much more promising. I had the GO12s on my Subaru Forester in the past and those tyres are excellent, so pretty stoked I managed to get them on my Tiguan now.
Hope this info helps someone else out there with similar requirements.
    Cheers
    Thomas

Any reason for the GO12 instead of the GO15? I put them on my Passat and drove in snow up to guthega. They have better reviews in snow than the GO12
