There's the R&D cost that others are probably recouping vs cheap knock-offs?
Is it worth risking on a +$50k machine?
Hi all,
Looking for product recommendations for various bolt-on parts etc.
Mostly to help each other get great parts and perhaps avoid paying for brand name tax that is ever present in the aftermarket parts world.
I started this because as I look for an intake elbow and turbo muffler delete I have found:
*note* Not my sale item!
Turbo Muffler Delete - $43 AUD
Now $43 is a lot better than $180 the brand names are trying to flog off a piece of straight through aluminium. It's not a piece that is hard to screw up and doesn't really do anything.
The next item being the Inlet Elbow - $55
Again, not hard to mess up and not a product that justifies a $180 price from the brand names
So what am I missing? - China turbo's I understand you wouldn't touch but it's pretty hard to stuff up a bit of pipe in billet aluminium!
Any other parts people have seen advise for / against?

That is what I think as well.
I can see where it might be ok to skimp on quality but not on something this sits right in front of the turbo. All it takes is the aluminium quality to be less that optimal and have it break and a piece of aluminium go into the turbo, that would make a real expensive mess!!

I really doubt an aftermarket company would cover you. They will warrant their own product but should a piece fall into your turbo and destroy the blades (best case) they won’t be liable. Too many variables like how it was installed, what you may have done yourself etc etc. false sense of security.
Local supplier won’t be responsible. Manufacturer would be based in another country and would no doubt source from a “low cost” source manufacturer, both of which could not be held liable for anything other than a defect of their own item
Are you just looking for bolt-ons that improve performance or aesthetics as well?

If theres anything I have learned from 20+ years of modifying cars and working in the industrial manufacturing industry is that you get what you pay for.
Material quality is the main issue from cheap Chinese made parts.
