So I would prefer ACC that I can override when I need to overtake, rather than the speed limiter leaving me hanging mid manoeuvre. Lol.

I'd assumed the speed limiter was 'only' a chime to remind people to check their speed. And you could boot passed the limit set if you wanted or needed to.

    Has anyone actually tried it?

If you push the throttle hard enough you'll feel a "bump" and it'll accelerate over the speed limiter you've set. At least it does on my Passat!

Yes, you need to press the kickdown switch to override the limiter.

    What’s a kickdown switch?

Makes sense. I’ll give it a try.

Little switch at the bottom of the pedal travel that tells the car to give it everything it has, override any speed limiters and shift down a gear if possible. Press till you feel it hit the end and then press harder - that's the switch.

Never knew that. Seriously. I always thought it kicked down in response to throttle angle and velocity. It’s been a while between cars and first VW so I must’ve missed some tech. Cheers for the tip!
