I've had my Allspace for 2 years with no issues despite it being built in Mexico. Would I recommend one to the average punter or my mother who's going to keep the car past warranty? No. Its servicing costs are expensive (think you pay double vs Rav4 in first 3 years), price tag is higher than mid suv rivals, questionable reliability after warranty period and VW Customer Care being poor.
That being said the 162 is catered to towards dads that want a bit of sport in their car and the engine EA888 is the best in its class, better than CX5 Turbo. Also, what got us to choose the Allspace over the Rav4 Hybrid was the 2 extra part-time seats and extra boot space. I feel the non-Allspace really only has the engine as a distinctive feature over its rivals but at a $10k premium.
