Got a call today from the Dealership 'booking team'.

She ran through confirmation of the online booking, then after I mentioned that Gearbox in Emergency Mode she stated that they charge $220 to run a diagnostics.

I asked what she meant as the car is under warranty then she stated if its under warranty that I didn't need to pay but that she needed to inform me anyway.

She then proceeded to update the online booking notes to include the "$220 Diagnostics Fee"

I assume the dealership sales of VW must be declining.

    .
That's cheaper than the $495 that Jaguar Landrover quote. (I've had a recent experience with our LR Discovery Sport

In fact in the last two months VW sales in Australia have now brought them back into the top10 brand sales in Australia now they have started to overcome their semi conductor supply issues.

    Went in for service.

They 'confirmed' there is an issue with the DSG Mechatronic & will replace under warranty.
Approx. 4-6 weeks for the part to come from Germany. Good its covered under warranty, disappointed gearbox fails after 25K kms.

They said I can still drive the Tiguan until the part comes in from Germany (4-6 weeks).
Does this sound right?? I thought from other posts it would not be safe to drive once confirmed DSG /
    Mechatronic is faulty??

When it goes into fail mode no reverse. So I wouldn’t park anywhere you wouldn’t be able to drive out of. Also annoying the lack of gears and how it bunny hops around going from 2-4.
Also tbh I didn’t drive mine cos I just didn’t wanna be caught in traffic or needing to drive properly and have it mucking around

I’ve mentioned this before but does anyone know much about Class Actions and legal options? There seem to be so many owners with a failed mechatronic unit. More a matter of when not if and surely going to have a really nasty effect on re-sale value.

Once this part has been replaced, how long is it good for? I have little faith in the durability of this design. Amazing car to drive when brand new but jeez it’s going to cost you later.

Well my 2017 VW 162 TSI Tiguan had its gearbox go into emergency mode for the first time at 114,000 kms. How has everyone generally approached this? Since my warranty has run out I have been getting the car serviced at Eurotune who do proper VW servicing.

Have people out of warranty taken the issue back to a dealership or gone non-dealership for repairs? Also did people ask for goodwill from VW Australia regarding prior to carrying out the repairs or after and then seeking reimbursement?

Also did anyone in this thread have a TCU tune done as well?

Thanks guys, i did not sleep well last night with all this on my mind!

    Hi LaNOS,

I can't assist for your situation as my failed at 25K kms and still under warranty. I will let someone else respond who may have experienced this issue post warranty expiring.

It appears the 'Gearbox in Emergency Mode' is an issue with the Mechatronic (part of the DSG).
As the Mechatronic is a common failure, I assume that VW know about this issue or its a purpose design fault to generate parts revenue.

Aside from the Mechatronic failing at 114K kms, has your car had any other issues?

I wish you the best of luck… I’m having an absolute nightmare and mine is still under warranty - currently trying to fob me off with “Fixed it with a software update” after waiting 6 weeks for a part that obviously hasn’t showed up. Such a shame that this sort of thing happens. Amazing cars but so fragile. I have now turned to VW head office for help and quite happy to go to Fair Trading if needs be. Judging by this thread it is a sickeningly common issue.

WT? Its under warranty and VW are refusing to fix it?

Has the part come in from Germany as my dealer said its about a 6 week wait?

Make sure you have VW Roadside Assist renewed so you are no left stranded

Well under warranty I had one waterpump failures and one failure where the water line going into the engine block had let go.

The water pump failed again outside of warranty and I had that repaired again. Yeah I dunno if after reflecting on all of this whether I'd go VW/Audi Group cars again.
