VW Australia have issued a recall for the 2017 model Tiguan. Only 707 of the total models sold in Australia have been affected by this fault. Statement on the ACC website:
The hazards are that itThe laser welded seam on the front seat backrests may not have been correctly configured during production, which may impact on the strength of the welded connection.could potentially lead to injuries sustained by the vehicle occupants in the event of a serious rear collision.
VW will be mailing all current owners of vehicles affected.

I don't think this is a big deal - if your VIN is on the list then take it in and have it resolved. Recalls are pretty common for new models.

True, all new models suffer teething problems (engine problems, electrical) but major flaws like a weld seam? I wouldn't downplay the seriousness of.
Thankfully VW have promptly highlighted it and it's been published on all major media outlets, but I thought I'd publish it here for all members to be fully aware of.
