17" Tiguan wheels for 2018 R-Line

Well I can tell you from experience that my wifes Polo is 7 k over at 100kph and to correct it would take tyres with a diameter 40mm larger which are illegal .
OK looked the sizes up on rimsntires comparator
Wheel-Tire size comparer

and heres what i got

Standard wheels
225/40/20 = 688mm dia
225/45/19 =685 dia

Winter tyres
215/65/17 =712 dia

So they are slightly larger in actual fact and so speedo will run slower than normal by about 2%

Whether brakes will fit ??????

Diameter won't give you the actual loaded roll out.

Attached is pic of TiguanR on 235/65 R17 tyres on Audi Q5 Rims.The rims are E8Jx17 H2 ET39. The car rides better on rough roads and is quieter in coarse bitumen. Handling under normal conditions seems OK. 17 inch wheels fit OK as brakes are the same size on all Tiguans.

OK question answered - Audi OEM 17" rims will clear Gen 2 Tiguan brakes.

The main thing with these weels you have to be aware of is that the standard Q5 tyre sizing on these is a little larger than you'd get on a gen2 Tiguan: Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit

So fitment wise they will sit almost exactly same place, however will be 3.4% out in terms of diameter/speedo. Usually your speedo will be reading ~4-5% over at 100km/hr so this will bring it back closer to "true" speed. You won't be able to "creep" as you've already crept up in tyre size.

Not that it's necessarily a problem with these particular wheels but be especially careful with Audi rims in general as there are many aftermarket copies out there. If the wheels don't match up with factory specs and/or the backs don't have the factory markings then more than likely they are copies.

Personally if I was changing to a set of Audi rims I'd go for the 18's but that's only because I like the design of the 18's better and the ride quality difference going from 17" to 18" is not going to be very noticeable. Just put your suspension setting into comfort mode and you'll be right!

Just a question Are hub rings legal Spacers and adapters certainly arent anywhere in Aus unless factory fitted.

Will the brakes fit inside 17s????????.

Would think they wouldnt look the best and unles you put bloody big tyres on them your speedo will be in the next postcode as it will be so fast it wont be funny.

Does anyone know if you can alter the pulses on the Tigs. I certainly couldnt in the Passat and it wasnt for the lack of trying

Hubcentric rings are legal. Many ADR approved aftermarket wheels have them. They are different from hubcentric spacers.

It would be really good to know how accurate your speedometer is but assuming it's typical of VW 7-10% over-read (eg: 100kph on speedo is 93kph actual and holding up the traffic).

the nearest 17" size to a 235/45r20 (assuming that's what size you have) and assuming your rims are 20x8 ET41 is 235/65r17 which is 20mm bigger in diameter. Still legal but maybe causing a speedo under-read. Or you can go more inaccurate with a 235/60r17.

Unless you go off-road I don't think either size is ideal as you really want to stick with 8" width to fill the guards properly and not make the stance look too under-done. Check tyre choices and prices too.

Personally, I'd go 18x8 with 235/55r18 (lots of choice). 245/55r18 would be better but choice is limited. The ride would still be good.

I think you need runflats too, don't you? This restricts choice even further unless you get a spare and tools.

Also, do you intend running snow chains at any point?

I have no idea (yet) about the accuracy of the speedo - only had the car a week.

The stock wheels are 20x8.5 ET38, tyres are 255/45r20, so the 235/65r17's should be ok apart from the speedo error/correction, which I can live with until the tyres are replaced. The wheels in the photo earlier in the post look ok, I think.

As for spares/runflats, I'll probably get a spare if it will fit under the raised cover, which some people have had success with.

I have no plans to run snow chains.

A 20mm larger diameter tyre wont make a 7k over speedo underead Our Polo is 7 K over and to bring it back to accurate the tyres would need to be 40mm larger and illegal.

So 20mm would only bring it back by 3-4 kph

If you're going with one of the Q5 Audi wheels then the hub rings need to be Audi to VW = 66.6mm to 57.1mm

I'd probably pay a few more $ and get the aluminium ones but both should work OK. They don't support any weight - just ensure that your wheel is put on centred on the hub before you bolt it up:

If you want to change the Audi centre caps over, you could try these:

It says they're compatible with Audi wheels. If you pay with PayPal you can always claim if they don't fit. Otherwise run the Audi covers but you may get some strange looks from people running Audi centre caps on a VW...

The stock Tiguan Trendline 17's have similar centre caps which cover the bolts, however these are probably going to be pretty pricey from a dealer spare parts.
