Thanks Tigger, for the excellent answers - exactly what I had hoped for.

You are indeed a walking encylopedia, and a rather polite and diplomatic one at that, as evidenced by your comment that there are many reasons to change wheel sizes.

They need to be 5x112 (diameter and number of bolt holes) and if you get wheels from an Audi you’ll also want a hub ring (to locate the wheel on the hub when you put it on as the Audi’s run a larger hub. VW hub is 57.1mm and Audi is 66.6mm. If you don’t use the hub rings the wheel can be bolted up off-centre and cause vibration. You can buy cheap off eBay so no reason not to get a set.

Only other thing you need to consider is offset. Tiguan offset is around 38-41mm. This is the distance away from the centre line of the rim that the wheel mounts on the hub. The bigger this number the more inwards the wheel sits. You ideally want to keep this in the 30-40 range for a Tiguan. Especially with an R-line with extended guards you want to have the wheel sitting a little more outwards if possible. This is more from a cosmetic than driving point of view, however if you do deviate too much you’ll change the track of the vehicle what can change handling/dynamics. A few mm either way is not going to be noticeable.

Generally Passat and Scirocco wheels and also first gen Tiguan will be fine, however the tyres will need to be changed for correct diameter (tyre spec are in you fuel flap).

    2. eBay, gumtree, Facebook VWW classifieds. Prices will vary depending on condition of wheels and tyres and demand.

    3. Factory warranty won’t cover the new wheels/tyres obviously. As long as you keep to standard factory sizes all other warranty should be unaffected.

    4. Yes as long as you keep to factory standard sizes/offsets there should be no issues.

Just a question Are hub rings legal Spacers and adapters certainly arent anywhere in Aus unless factory fitted.

Will the brakes fit inside 17s????????.

Would think they wouldnt look the best and unles you put bloody big tyres on them your speedo will be in the next postcode as it will be so fast it wont be funny.

Does anyone know if you can alter the pulses on the Tigs. I certainly couldnt in the Passat and it wasnt for the lack of trying

The tyre placard shows what tyres are standard fitment for each rim size.

No idea on hub spacer legality. Though they are very common.

Hub/centring rings are certainly no problem. These are only locating the wheel onto the hub and not taking any load.

Spacers/adapters are different as they physically change the track of the vehicle and increase loads on axles as a result. You also need to run longer bolts so you still have the same number of threads of bolt going into the hub.

Good question and always best to check. The fact that they are 17" doesn't necessarily mean that they are/aren't going to fit. It's the design of the rim on the inside of the spokes and lip that causes the interference.

They will just look like the stock 17's put onto an R-line. Audi Q5 wheels would probably not look too bad.

I don't think you can change the speedo and wouldn't suggest people do this. There quite a few reasons why you shouldn't run incorrect size wheels on the car as it interferes with the correct operation of the ABS and ACC systems amongst other things.

    This will tell you

I just downloaded all Tiguan ERWIN info yesterday

    D4B80796BF8-Wheels_and_Tyres_Guide.pdf - Google Drive

Nothing wrong with adjusting speedo pulse to bring it closer to correct.

The Passat and Polo are 7 over at 100km and if it would alter pulse it could be brought back to 2 over and be better. MyCruiser was bang on at 100kph and was perfectly legal. To use oversize tyres would have been illegal and upset performance and braking ability

The smaller wheels look OK on a Highline and an R line is just a few extra bits of trim so I can't see the problem. It is done all the time in Europe, over there they have in a lot of places two sets of wheels, one for winter use and they are always a smaller diameter from what I have seen and no one complains about the speedo being out. It would be interesting to see what the difference is on roll out measurement.

Well I can tell you from experience that my wifes Polo is 7 k over at 100kph and to correct it would take tyres with a diameter 40mm larger which are illegal .
OK looked the sizes up on rimsntires comparator
    Wheel-Tire size comparer

    and heres what i got

    Standard wheels
    225/40/20 = 688mm dia
    225/45/19 =685 dia

    Winter tyres
    215/65/17 =712 dia

So they are slightly larger in actual fact and so speedo will run slower than normal by about 2%

    Whether brakes will fit ??????

Hub rings are fine. Plus who is going to be able to tell if you have them fitted unless you actually take your wheels off? And they make your car safer having them not worse so you should actually get defected for not having them not the other way around.
