    Updating GPS via Download file

So ive been trying to map update for a day now and even google is rather muddled as most people seem to have gone via the old Discover Care software and everybody else just seems to have luck copy/pasting and away you go..

My 2019 B8 has the Discover Media setup so I've downloaded the 1.8GB AUS_9PR085_CT3WS-22105_Offline_Update.tar file via volkswagen.com.au site, Formatted an SD Card(16GB) as exFat/Fat/NTFS, Extracted via 7ZIP the files to the SD Card, Placed the SD Card in Slot #2 in the car then started the car up and went to Navigation - System Infromation chose "Update Software" and got the "No Data available" error.

Other comments ive read people said you there is no prompt and it happens in the background ive been driving the car for the past week so a few hours easily and no difference.

Is there something im missing? Ive followed then guide and then tried every kind of mix but nothing...

    My System Information still says
    Software: 0475
    Navigation Database: 5NA919866C
    1010
    MRM2 2018/19

Are you using an original VW SD card?
There are hidden files on those cards that need to be read in order for the mapping data to be unlocked.

I think you are using the wrong file as your info says MRM2 and the file I reckon is for a MIB3 and a 3 doesnt have slots in the glovebox AFAIK I have a Pro and it only had USB C slots in the front of the console. You cant update a 3 with an SD card.

I could be wrong but reckon thats the problem Put in Passat 2017 and try the file you get for that.

Also it is a zip file NOT a TAR which is for an MIB3

@Flipper, not using the official SD i was not sure i had to use that because people say you need to Format the SD Card so i wasnt to keen to Format the genuine? Also its not mentioned in the guide to do that.

@HillBilly, so i got the File from VW under Passat > From 2019 > Discover Media and when I choose Australia the file I'm given is AUS_9PR085_CT3WS-22105_Offline_Update.tar.
Ive done as you said and ive downloaded the Passat 2017 World Bundle 3 File DiscoverMedia2_MRM3_2010_V17.7z 5.4GB
and then extracted that to the SD and put it into SD Slot #2 and tried to update but it came up with the error.

I even let it run for about 15-20mins on a short drive but nothing maybe it just takes much longer due to being 5GB.. Unless i do need to use the original vw sd/buy a burner.

Format the card as Fat32 ( if it fails use ExFat) and try it. What computer are you using DONT USE A FING MAC as it puts files on the SD card that VW cant read. If you have an SD card slot its a MIB2 as MIB 3 dont have one and the 2017 file should be correct.
Also on an MIB2 you tell it to "Update software" in the MMI menu or if all is good it finds it itself. In a MIB3 you get no messages

@JPN confirm what version of media you are using. Discover or Discover Pro?
If you had an original SD VW navigation card in one of the SD card slots of your unit then you will have Discover media.
    Follow these instructions - https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/m...ember_2020.pdf

The file you have downloaded is for Discover Media - https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.c...M3_2010_V17.7z

You need to reformat the original VW SD card and load the unzipped contents onto that card. Placing it into the SD slot will allow it to read the data from the SD card. The maps are stored on that card not the hard drive.

The Discover Pro allows you to load data into the hard drive via SD card or USB device, this is what Hillbilly is talking about. Once the card/device is inserted then the system will prompt you to load the new data or you can manually load it.

If you are worried about killing anything currently on your VW SD card then save its contents to your computer (windows, don't even attempt using apple with VW navigation).

Your MIB2 Discover media will only recognise navigation data on an original VW SD card, you can't use any other SD card without a work around.

Thanks for the replies, shall copy my original SD and then Format it and try again.
The guide actually has 0 reference to advising "Use your Genuine VW Provided SD Card" which no doubt would of solved alot of problems!

In his OP he says he has downloaded the file with "offline" in its title . That is for an MIB3

He should use the one with 2010 in its title as Flipper Dog says to get that you have to use 2017 as your model.

Formatting a VW card wont erase the hidden files on it as you cant erase them with out a destructive Format.

Have downloaded both to confirm which are for which.

So I've done the following and I believe it has worked...

Used Passat 2017 Download Links for a Passat 2019 with Discover Media (VW Website is wrong )
Formatted Original VW SD Card as FAT32
Extracted 2017 Files (DiscoverMedia2_MRM3_2010_V17.7z) onto SD Card
Put SD Card into Slot #1 in Car
    Went to System Information

    Now the vehicle shows
    Navigation Database - 5NA919866DJ
    MRM3 2023/2024

The Update SD Card button still comes up with an error but I can only assume since the information above has changed the system purely loads the Maps from the SD Card so there is no real "update" occurring, Possibly this is purely for Firmware updates to the System itself... Now to look into this

Yes success and it depended when in 2019 they changed from one unit to the newer one. EG a 2019.5 occurs about May/Early June and probably when they upgraded the MIB. I had an early June Passat and the .5 came out the week after mine. Very rare to get firmware available and havent seen any around Got to your MMI menu and Update software and see what happens
