G'day/evening fellas,

What tyre setup is everyone running?

Im looking to upgrade from 245/35/R19 from stock 235/40/R19 (8jx19 rim) I see on forums that this is possibly the max I could do on stock rims (potential to upgrade rim to 8.5j in future)

I like the look of the Verona's so ill keep them for a wee bit longer. 235/40/R19 tires are just hard to find especially for Potenza RE003s that I am also looking at

Most B8 Passat and equivalent Skoda Superb owners go for 245/40/R19 as the more readily available option. The rolling diameter is closer to standard than the 35 profile equivalent and also improves the accuracy of the speedo. The slightly taller sidewall also fills the guards a bit more and provides slightly improved comfort. All pluses in my book!

235/40r19 is actually the stock setup, 245/35r19 is really a golf R tyre

Here is my Passat 206 (stage 2) that I track occasionally (also have a 6sp golf R) on APR 01 19x8.5- 245/35r19 (AD08R) front and 255/35r19 (Michelin PS4S* - runs wide) rear

The 255/35r19 is pretty close in rolling diameter to the stock size, but still smaller

I did have 245/35r19 AD08R all around but the rears were heat cycled out so put on the PS4S* that was lying around.

Once this set goes I am going to go 245/40r19 square

A 35r19 profile tyre will always look too small on a B8 Passat unless you’re lowered quite a bit

Yeah I meant that 235/40/19 is stock and I want to go 245/35/19.

There was a set of near new PS4S for quite cheap but sadly they're sold.
I'm going to go for Bridgestone RE003 as they're on sale and good enough to wear for 1-2yrs, had experienced them on my old CL7 Euro R but with the Passat going to Stage 2 we'll see how they actually perform, mind you that I do peak traffic weekdays + some spirited driving on the weekends.
Nothing crazy... That is until I get the car back with the reflash.

Also as Petemac110 mentioned, with a slightly taller sidewall I should expect a little more comfort on these NZ roads... with the tyres to slim the gap between the guards a tad too (I think roughly ~8mm)

Let's see how they go!

I wasn't 100% clear in my earlier post - 245/35R19 is smaller rolling diameter than the factory 235/40R19.

You want 245/40R19 for a slightly taller sidewall and a larger rolling diameter which makes your speedo read more accurately

I get what you were trying to say Petemac. I also discussed with my mechanic that a 245/40 is more 'car friendly' compared to 245/35 which may also make the car look disproportionate.

I got my Stage 2 installed and it's quite the 'sleeper' now, albeit I didn't fully push it.

245/35r19 looks OK at the front, but in the rear it looks severely undersized unless you’re lowered by maybe 20-30mm

The RE003s are fine for daily tyre, actually started to see some RE004 stock in Australia.

Checkout Davanti Protoura sport if you can get it in 235/40r19, a lot cheaper but provides similar performance to PS4S

I don't think you'll have any issues - 245/40R19 is an incredibly common "upgrade" on Passats and Superbs with the 19x8" rims here in Oz.

245/35r19 and 245/40r19 can both fit on between 8-9.5inch. 245/40 is the widest you can go on 19x8 unless you go to an SUV 45/50 profile

But definitely go the 40 profile or it won’t look great
