Hey everyone,
I’m considering the option of sleeping in the back of my 2018 Passat Alltrack for road trips and long drives. I’ve done this before in my Touareg and later in my 5 Series, both of which worked well—the Touareg’s rear seats folded almost flat, while the 5 Series had a completely flat and lockable locked in place.
I’m new to the Passat world and I just noticed that the rear seats not only don’t fold flat but also create a noticeable step-up where they meet the boot. This makes it tricky to get a level sleeping surface. I’ve come across a company in Europe that sells a solution for this, but it costs a few thousand dollars, which is way out of my budget. So, I’m wondering—has anyone here found a way to level the boot and maybe put a mattress in it?
Any tips, modifications, or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!
TIA

As above, the cheap solution would be to build a raised false floor out of plywood which you can place in the boot to level the boot and rear seat. Then slide a matress of some kind in to sleep on.
I’ve done this a few times in my b6 Passat wagon and b8 Passat wagon. You may need to push the front seats forward and take off all rear headrests. I believe there is still a very slight incline but at least your head is higher than your legs. Maybe prop a pillow or towel under feet to level yourself out. Best practice is to inflate the air mattress or whatever you’re using while it is inside the vehicle - see photos while I was camping for a few days
