Thanks, I found a local dealer "EuroCare" for APR (and others) so will have a chat. I intend to keep the VW for 3-4 years so dont want to go nuts but I know the engine has been tuned different for the Passat vs the Golf R (as well I assume the DGS) so will just see. My Ecoboost had the full treatment FMIC, Intake, Sparks, Catch Can, Cat Back, Cobb AP, Pro Tune etc etc.. I dont want to go quite that far this time but yeah wouldnt mind just getting a little more response - in the end I havent even driven a Passat R line, but bought it after driving the 206 Skoda Superb Sportswagon. While the thing was very brisk it did have a significant lag from WOT to actual car moving (felt like a good 1-1.5 seconds).
Unfortunately these cars are rare in Perth and the pricing is shocking, so was cheaper to buy ex Melb. I sat in a R Line at a local dealer and pulled the trigger thinking the drive will be similar/better than the MY16 Sportswagon i drove..
Anyway, thanks for the help - I'll chat to the guys/gals at EuroCare here in Perth and take it from there based on their recommendations. Its meant as a Dad wagon but its going to be hard to go to something slow after the Mustang haha..
I guess I always want to talk to people with experience first so when i do talk to a pro I know when they try and sell you special sauce that isn't so special.. Likewise I am getting ready to hear stupid costs involved as opposed to having done everything on my previous car myself (I paid under 3k, vs 9k through local "workshop" for lower level mods!!!)

I had an APR tune in my A3 2.0tfsi Quattro.
Very similar to your Passat R in most respects except a bit of weight.
Made it an awesome little car.

Yeah I will definitely drive it for a little to get a feel first, might even enjoy the "sedate" drive stock
$1300 for a ECU tune? You're kidding right? I presume that is at least a complete Dyno tune sessions and transmission tune then right?
If thats for just an OTS ECU reload that is laughably expensive!

I have emailed local specialist but from my readings it looks like it may be around that money, thats just drug money for effectively an OTS map upgrade which would simply change some boost, ignition timing etc targets.
Frag, as a fellow 206 owner in Perth I know there are quite a few tuners here.
Racing Dynamics, Ramp Auto, Pace Auto Werks just to name a few.
Have a chat to some of them to get an idea of what you want and what they can do for you.

I only found out this car existed last night and test drove it this morning, fairly impressed! I still drive my Tsi Amarok with 190kw and APR tune (for sale everyone!) and with MY17 206tsi demo sedans so cheap what's not to like? Would I be missing much by picking a 2017 Demo over the last of MY18's? Either way my dealer is ready to deal!!
Hi Mate
I have nothing but praise for the MY17 206 TSI, great weapon. I could be wrong, but only delta I see, is the new MMI. From what I hear though, the MMI is very sensitive. When you fart, the MMI changes station. The Discover Pro in the MY17 is really good. Everything else seems the same, may get proven wrong.
You could probably pick up a Demo now for about $45k - $50k with about 1500 to 5000 kms, just guessing.

Well I got a unbeatable deal on a brand new one, worked out very close to repayments on the used one so no brainer for me. Now have to wait for 2-3 weeks while it makes its way to WA. 2018 MY18. Can't wait!
Bombsquad - You get an updated Discovery pro Infotainment which really looks impressive compared to the old one, mainly the screen is not matt and colour is better. Functionality wise not much different other than I think DAB radio but thats moot with Android/Apple anyway and maybe traffic assist or some such. Also I think there is an easy in/out for seats where they move into position after you enter the car etc.. but not sure on that one as i havent driven a my17 or a my18 just sat in
But yeah I got a deal that was too good to refuse locally so had to go for it
Well I got a quote $17xx -15% so lets say 1400.. hahaha you have to be f**king kidding me.. a OTS ecu remap for $1400.. I don't know what crack people smoke these days and hey clearly some spend that money but that was an OTS retune.. ie they spend 15 mins backing up your ECu and loading new values. How the hell do you justify that much.
My previous car had a Cobb AP which came with the OTS maps which was $600 and that was with me for life, heck I just sold it for $400. I also spent $500 on a protune which turned the car into a monster but that was completely done for my car / mods / engine. Anyway I wont go down the APR road, I dont mind spending money but I dont enjoy getting something from behind.
Oh well stock it will stay!
