Doh! Bad luck Mate! On the plus side... it looks like everyone's OK and the car held up pretty well. On the plus side... I love the photography, with the kangaroo in the background.

One query I have is with the ACC. It seems to detect vehicles in the adjacent right-hand lane, as well as vehicles directly in front. If the lane ahead is clear, but there is a vehicle in the adjacent right-hand lane (just ahead of me), the dash graphics show this and the ACC won't accelerate past it. Almost as if it's set not to overtake on the inside of another vehicle.

Anyone else experienced this? Any way to turn it off in the settings?

    Cheers, Sam.
I had the same problem on the freeway heading on holiday! I've got no idea... but I imagine a quick Google search or a read of the manual will fix it.

I note it doesn't happen with a car on the left hand lane and only at highway speeds, so I think it doesn't let you overtake from the slow lane.... also, it must be a region / steering side thing. I imaging left had drive cars probably do the same thing for cars next to them in the left hand lane (which would be their slow lane).

Unfortunately... we have idiots in this country who drive slowly in the right hand lane. It's probably not a German problem...

    Yes it's annoying.

If you accelerate 1km/h by pressing "res" or just touch the accelerator the car will go to the cruise control set speed and ignore the car on the right hand lane.

Hope that roo is insured..nooo that's not funny, really sorry.

My 206 wagon is due this week and here's my one question, probably been asked before but despite my searchings i can find no answer.

Is it possible to disable the keyless entry but still maintain the keyless start?

The work experience Dealer Lad says no but I suspect he knows little about this, he could be right though.

There is no menu option to do that, but you might be able to do it with VCDS.

What makes you want to disable the keyless entry? The proximity is nothing like a dodgy Corvette, you actually need to be fairly close to the specific side of the vehicle. You can also set it so it only unlocks the door that you're at.

I virtually have to be on top of it to unlock the doors! I find if I'm next to the passenger door, but try and unlock my door, it won't work! I have to stand next to the handle with my key in my pocket to open it! It's a VERY small proximity!

Welcome. Hope you enjoy your nice new ride!

As for your other bit. Undertaking on motorways/freeways is illegal in most European countries. I believe it is also technically illegal under some conditions in Australia, such as overtaking lanes and certain motorways/freeways. It is a bit of nuisance but like another member has said, just hit "RES +" and it will override it, the disadvantage is that you go up by 1km/hr. You can turn it off but only by disabling lane assist.

He tells me he has a 'tuning mate' so we'll see what comes of that and what factory warranty comes from it

I'm not holding my breath, but I am looking forward to a drive in the Golf R to compare.

It definitely feels like sluggish clutch engagement because if i hit it hard it revs to 2500-3000 and slowly engages the clutch and then takes off.
Watch a couple of youtube videos on various dual clutch type setups, including some of the performance ones. You'll notice a bit of pickup lag/slip on brisk launches. I think it's a combination of this slip and a badly timed lag spot in the turbo spooling. Tuning would address this but it would most likely had to be both a gearbox and engine tune to sort it. VW should have made the "sport" program more like a Golf R in it's takeoff dynamics and then the normal sedate Passat mode in normal. Unfortunately it looks like we get "sedate passat" in normal mode and "sedate passat that likes to ring out the gears" in sport mode. The car is still quick, but it's not trying hard to be on the "R" side of the R-Line.

Yeah but even so speed wise, it is less than a second difference to 100kph between the heavier Passat and lighter and more powerful Golf R so while it is feeling slow to some of you is it really? I don't get how a heavier car with less power can be expected to be the same in launching feel and acceleration to to Golf R guys? It's not in the same space or class so were you expecting similar performance and are disappointed? It is still faster than a Golf GTI and Golf Anniversary to 100kph and I'd say 80-120kph it probably is too so it's not outside what I was expecting.
Maybe the newer ones needs more KMs or something to bed in the clutch and the car lets itself behave differently after a certain period as mine goes pretty good from a standing start in all modes (15,000kms) compared to other cars too so.....presume Oz spec cars are same as kiwi ones?

There are settings within the diffs that can be changed with vcds to make this better. But even with this changed my mate flogged me in his golf r when we played the other day. It was disgraceful
