How to avoid DQ200 clutch worn out prematurely? Mine just got replaced at 45k km

    Hi all,

My clutch just got replaced at 45k km. I did take steps that I know such as no creeping at traffic, not using accelerator to hold position on the hill, etc but still my clutch needed replacing at 45k km.

Then I came across DSG software from this website which seems to be helpful to prolong the clutch: Harding Performance/TVS DSG Software - 7 speed DQ200 - Harding Performance

Pretty much what they say there happens in my Passat:

    1. Better shifting strategyWhen entering a curve or a roundabout, the DSG has not selected an appropriate gear. This creates poor throttle response when accelerating.

    2. Remove delay or lagWhile slowly rolling into an intersection and suddenly want to accelerate you feel the acceleration response becomes very sluggish and delayed. But when giving it more throttle the car suddenly pulls abruptly forward. We can change this. So when you are driving at low speeds of about 15kmh the car reacts better when accelerating.

    3. Under revvingThe DSG upshifts at extremely low RPM’s. Generally, when you are driving at 60kmh the DSG is already in 7th gear and between 1000 and 1200rpm. When giving slight throttle the engine and gears start making audible vibration sounds during low RPM speeds. These sounds will become more noticeable over time if not fixed and will result in permanent flywheel damage. We can fix this problem by raising the shift RPM values and so reduce the frequent up and downshifts. The engine and DSG transmission will respond better and faster when applying throttle. Repair costs would be several times the cost of software. With a simple and affordable software package, your DSG will last longer and have better performance.

    4. Sports modeMany drivers find that the DSG in S mode does not drive very well. The DSG downshifts too early and the engine will rev high. What we do is lower the S mode to make it more suitable for driving in the city.

    5. Vibration (Shudder)Do you feel heavy vibrations when accelerating from (near) standstill? Or when up-shifting from 1st to 2nd gear in D mode? We advise you to act quickly and apply our DSG software to prevent further harm to your DSG.The software is jointly developed by Harding Performance and TVS Engineering to work seamlessly with Harding Performance or Racingline Performance OEM+ ECU software.

Anyone has any experience with this software?

DQ200 is just like that. What ever you do, it won’t last. It’s a dry clutch and it will worn out some day. Consider the clutch pad as a consumable product.

Even wet clutch. DQ350 or DQ500 can not last as long as the Porsche PDK. Manual cars have the same issue too if you don’t gear perfectly.

    45k is not bad really.

$2000 every two years is insane. Clutch is wear item but VW did replace it for me for free under warranty. I guess they know that their DQ200 gearbox is *****.

Otherwise no one will buy a VW anymore. Own VW under warranty then get a proper ZF 8 speed.

I believe ZF-8 is the most reliable.

Mercedes 9 speed have two version I remember. The one in GLE and AMG is amazing.

Mine will be replaced at 35k km. I knew it is **** when buying car, but it was only option.

Actually clutch itself was fine, but with 2018 models, it's a known issue of production defect, that leads to vibration on 1-2-3 gearchange.
I once had a slipping efffect too with hea y clutch burn smell, but that was only once.

I really dislike this gearbox, but what can You do....
